NOTE: “This Week in Minneapolis” is late. Normally, standard previews are done a month in advance, thanks to long lead requests. However, the reasons we do the Weekly is because sometimes shows just randomly pop-up. The weekly runs on Saturday morning at 12:01am and covers shows for the week – up to Sunday. Unfortunately, due helping update yacht.wheartm.com (July 17-19) and driving 6 hours to cover two shows in St Augustine (Jul 17 and 20), I didn’t have time to piece together what’s going on this week.
Here is what is going on this week in Minneapolis/St Paul, ending on July 26, 2026: • Jeremy Messersmith at House Show, Wisconsin (July 23, 2026) • Birthday Suits at Turf Club (Jul 24, 2026) • Dylan Hicks & Small Screens at Resource Mpls (July 24-26, 2026)

Jeremy Messersmith at House Show, Wisconsin (July 23, 2026)

Jeremy Messersmith
at House Show
jeremymessersmith.com
Jeremy Messersmith will be playing a house show in Hudson, Wisconsin, on Thursday. Generally speaking, House Shows are not advertised (due to privacy), and generally due to noise ordinance, they are usually acoustic and end rather early. This is a great way to see your favorite musician at a small, intimate settings.
We recently saw Messersmith in June 2026, and wrote, “And when Jeremy Messersmith appeared on stage for a version of With a Little Help from My Friends, the crowd went absolutely bonkers. The sequencing by The New Standards was outstanding and they had created such momentum that the ride to the end was peak upon peak.”

Local favorite prairie rock band Keep for Cheap is set to open.

Birthday Suits at Turf Club (Jul 24, 2026)

Birthday Suits

at Turf Club

Longtime Japanese band, based in Minneapolis, Birthday Suits (Matthew Kazama and Hideo Takahashi) returns to the Turf Club stage, for one night only, on July 24, 2026, to help their fellow Japanese band Peelander-Z who was recently in a horrible car accident on tour. This Peelander-Z Benefit show will help them on the road to recovery. If you want to donate directly, they have setup a GoFundMe Page.
Peelander-Z were involved in a horrific traffic accident while touring in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and they’re hospitalized with traumatic injuries. They were rear-ended by an 18-wheeler in their van and are lucky to be alive. The road to recovery is going to be a long and challenging one, but if anyone can do it, it’s Peelander-Z!

The last time we saw The Birthday Suits was in April 2011, writing, “Friends of Peelander-Z, The Birthday Suits once again took up support. Like last year, the Japanese duo gives it all they got with bass and drums. All their songs are in true punk fashion, under two minutes, and within thirty minutes, the band was done and gone.”

The Birthday Suits adds why Peelander-Z is so important to them:
When our previous band, Sweet J.A.P., first played NYC in 2003, Peelander Yellow set up a show for us even though he didn’t know who we were. Since then, we’ve become good friends, toured together multiple times, and are happy to call them family. Peelander Z was in a horrific car accident. We, Birthday Suits, are coming back from retirement to support our family. Please join us to send them love and smiles.

Panel and ME ME ME to open.
