What can I say? Black Francis/Frank Black is back with his band Pixies, and this time they’re headlining the Palace Theatre, in St Paul. The new tour is in support of Pixies’ new album, The Night The Zombies Came, released in October, via BMG.

Pixies at Starlight Theatre (June 24, 2024)

We saw Pixies in June 2024 and said, “Boston’s Pixies have been going strong since their fabled 2004 reunion tour (which started in MN) and singer Frank Black (aka Black Francis) announcing his solo career was over a decade ago and going through a handful of bassists following Kim Deal’s departure in 2013. A Perfect Circle’s Paz Lechantin had been holding the position for the decade (and recording three studio albums) but she and fans were surprised earlier this spring, when news broke of her term ending.”

Fitz and the Tantrums is back in the Twin Cities, playing First Avenue, on August 2, 2025.
The last news we heard from the band was that lead singer Fitz released his solo album Summer of Us last November 2024.

Sam Fitz and the Tantrums at Palace Theatre (Aug 13, 2022)

We saw Fitz and the Tantrums in Aug 2022 and said, “Fitz and the Tantrums then took the stage with a solid groove of danceable neo-soul, kicking off the set with “OCD” and “Don’t Gotta Work It Out.” Although based out of Los Angeles, this is a band influenced by the sounds of Motown demonstrated in the sensual interplay between co-lead singers, Michael Fitzpatrick and Noelle Scaggs and the humming engine of Joseph Karnes on bass, John Wicks on drums and Jeremy Ruzumna on keyboards. No lead guitar? Fitzpatrick didn’t want one. He found a better avenue with James King on saxophone who at one point went on a free-form jazz solo during “Complicated”. ”

Chicago indie-rockers’ Ax and the Hatchetmen to open.

Horsegirl at Fine Line, Minneapolis (August 5, 2025)

Horsegirl

at Fine Line

New York-via-Chicago trio Horsegirl (Nora Cheng, Penelope Lowenstein, and Gigi Reece) are out on tour in support of their sophomore album Phonetics On and On (Matador Records). The tour will stop by the Fine Line, on August 5, 2025.

Note: this is an upgraded venue, the show was previously booked at the 7th Street Entry.

We caught the band in July 2022 and wrote, “A year later, I can let you know that the trio (Penelope Lowenstein, Nora Cheng, and Gigi Reece) seemed to be sharing more vocals/songs between its two singers Penelope and Nora (before it looked like Penelope did most of the heavy lifting). They’ve also seemed to downplay their experimental “Sonic Youth” fiddling and seemed focused on being a teenage rock trio. They’re still learning, they’re still evolving… and that’s exciting. Horsegirl’s debut album Versions of Modern Performance is available now on Matador Records.”

Lifeguard and Godcaster to open.
