Ceol on the River
feat. The Coronas
at Harriet Island
ceolontheriver.com
Technically, the Irish Fair of Minnesota doesn’t officially start on August 8 (and ends on August 10), but the prelude to the Irish Fair, a special new music series called Coel on the River (Music on the River) will be launching its first event on Thursday, August 7, 2025. Let’s hope success for this new Irish music series.
Lineup for the event features Ireland’s popular band The Coronas as headliner. The band is currently on tour in support of their eighth studio album Thoughts & Observations (which is the band’s fourth #1 album on the Irish charts).
Irish singer Róisín O to open. She is the daughter of Mary Black and has performed with members of the Black Family band. O’s currently signed to independent label 3ú Records.
Local band The Belfast Cowboys is also on the bill. We saw Belfast Cowboys in March 2025 and said, “A pretty last-minute decision found me at Turf Club on St. Patrick’s day to see locals The Belfast Cowboys. A brass heavy band that “specializes in the music of Van Morrison”, they were a pretty perfect band for the holiday, at a venue suited for it as well (green being the dominant color). The nine-piece band has a full brass section, multiple guitars, keys and drums. Lead singer Terry Walsh, asked, “Is it seven yet? We want to be prompt.” The first song, You Make Me Feel So Free had the full brass sound, including a great sax solo. The band was in the spirit, with some adorned in various types of St. Patrick’s Day accoutrements (sparkly green tie, green bowler hat, etc.). Walsh said, “It isn’t summer yet, but it’s coming”, as the band launched into a cover of Chuck Prophet’s Summertime Thing that included a brass riff on Summer in the City.”
While you’re at it, stay for the Irish Fair expanded to three days from August 8th through August 10th, with the event now featuring over six stages and spans to music, dance, comedy, and more… making it one of the country’s largest and most authentic Irish festivals.
Some music spotlight: Talisk (Friday), Emma Langford, Ally The Piper, Gaelic Storm (Saturday), Eileen Ivers & The Universal Roots (Saturday), The Diddley Idols (Saturday), The High Kings (Sunday), Eileen Ivers and The Brigideens (Sunday).
The Coronas tour dates:
- 6 August – Beat Kitchen, Chicago, IL
- 7 August – Ceol On The River, St Paul, MN
- 10, August – The Farmers Bash, Belfast
- 24, October – Spiegeltent, Wexford
- 25, October – Spiegeltent, Wexford
- 21, November – Prince Bandroom, St Kilda, Melbourne, Australia
- 22, November – Roundhouse, Sydney, Australia
- 23, November – Magnet House, Perth, Australia
- 28, December – Gleneagle Arena, Killarneys

BRONCHO
at 7th St Entry
first-avenue.com
Oklahoma-based band BRONCHO is back on tour in support of Natural Pleasure, their first new album in six years. The tour will stop in at the 7th Street Entry, in Minneapolis, on August 7, 2025.
We caught Broncho in Aug 2016 and wrote, “With a generous (nearly) one hour opening set (clocking in at 50 mins), Broncho took the stage with singer/guitarist Ryan Lindsey chanting, “We’re Broncho, we’re Broncho, we’re Broncho.” As soon as they started playing ‘Fantasy Boys’, taken from their latest Double Vanity album on Dine Alone Records, you can tell that Broncho seemed more focused in their sound. It sounded almost polished, compared to their previous albums and live appearance – which we previously called them as “punk”. Having seen them now, I wouldn’t really call them simply punk… they sound more melodic, with epic shoegazing jams.”
Tour Dates:
- Aug. 6 – Kansas City, MO @ Record Bar
- Aug. 7 – Minneapolis, MN @ 7th Street Entry
- Aug. 8 – Milwaukee, WI @ Cactus Club
- Aug. 9 – Chicago, IL @ Thalia Hall
- Aug. 10 – Detroit, MI @ The Shelter
- Aug. 12 – Cleveland, OH @ Beachland Ballroom
- Aug. 13 – Indianapolis, IN @ The Vogue
- Aug. 14 – Nashville, TN @ TBA
- Aug. 15 – Lexington, KY @ The Burl
- Aug. 16 – St. Louis, MO @ Off Broadway

Mark Mallman
at Parkway Theater

Minneapolis music icon, and now TikTok famous, Mark Mallman is having an album release show at the Parkway Theater, in Minneapolis on August 8, 2025. The 11th album called Magic Time came out June 27 on Hygh Tension Records/Virgin Music Group.
Mark Mallman at Turf Club (Nov 7, 2009)

We last saw Mallman as audience member at various shows (such as A Giant Dog and we’re pretty sure he was at The Church show)… as a performer, we caught him in Nov 2009 and said, “Mark Mallman at Turf Club, St Paul (11/7/09). As you can see, a special guest star showed up at the end of the set to end it on a bang… I’ve seen the dude before, he’s wonderfully mesmerizing to watch. If I had half his energy, I would explode. Opening up Mallman were The Magic Castles and The Alpha Centauri.”
Also, while poking around the Parkway Theater’s website, it would appear that Mallman will also be a guest on an upcoming Mississippi Valley Orchestra featuring Molly Brandt show, set for August 24, 2025.
Details from the website:
Named 2023 and 2024 Americana Artist of the Year at the Midwest Country Music Awards, Molly Brandt is making waves in the independent music scene. Drawing inspiration from songwriting legends, her songs weave tales of heartache, resilience and triumph, delving into blue-collar struggles, dive bar revelries, long car rides, and cold-blooded revenge. Brandt captivates audiences with her fiery delivery, memorable attire and evocative lyrics as she showcases powerful vocals, compelling storytelling, and unforgettable performances.
