My fault entirely, as I’ve been busy with travel and settling in at the new home in Florida. I have totally missed our Italian partner Kalporz on their Morrissey in Italy report, from late July 2025.

Look, to be perfectly honest, and I told our Kalporz contact that I think Morrissey would cancel Italy, on account that he cancelled 5 dates in July 2025 leading up to Italy.

Of course, I was proven wrong, and that’s wonderful news for Italian fans who attended the first opening night at the Teatro del Vittoriale, in Gardone Riviera, Italy.

As far as I know, there was no opening band for this show. Even the day before, at 8pm, the venue announced “the opening artists have not been announced” (non sono annunciati artisti in apertura). I am assuming they could not find anyone to open at the last minute.

Raffaele Concollato also mentioned the tension for a possible last-minute cancellation, if not by Morrissey, but with bad weather. Fortunately, neither happened and the show went on as scheduled.

Concollato also mentioned that The Smiths songs are wonderful and unforgettable, but you get more Morrissey’s recent songs (and assuming less beloved songs) like “Rebel Without Applause.”

I think, at this point, most fans are going to see Morrissey simply wanting to hear those classic Smiths songs, sung by Morrissey. It is nice to see Johnny Marr plays Smiths songs too, it’s simply not the same without Morrissey’s unique vocals. It would also be nice to see the two make up and reform The Smiths, but everybody knows that is never going to happen… so seeing Morrissey solo, is probably the closest thing to the Smiths as you’re going to get.

Note: The venue, Anfiteatro del Vittoriale, published the schedule and approved setlist for this show with “Irish Blood, English Heart” as the final song (see image of setlist), but for whatever reasons, Morrissey decided to not play it… leaving the sad, slow, haunting The Smiths’ “Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me” as the last song.
