Flashback: Valleyfair, Shakopee (September 6, 2003)
When I was living and working in Minnesota, the Valleyfair (a Six Flags Entertainment Corporation), in Shakopee, was the only amusement park in the area. It’s right next to the horse racing tracks Canterbury Park (although I’ve only been there for Festival Palomino or Renaissance Fair).
According to my photos’ metadata, the photos were taken on Saturday, September 6, 2003. I think my work was sponsoring (paid for my ticket) for Valleyfair, otherwise, I don’t think I would have gone on my own. I remember waiting very long lines for rides, such as the Power Tower … which lasts only seconds. Not sure if it’s worth the wait, but what else can you do?
Besides from waiting in line and the rollercoaster rides, there were plenty of carnival games and entertainment shows throughout the day. As you can see, we passed by a “Boogie Fever” show. I’m not sure if they still perform this routine, but they did have a live house band.
Sadly, on that Saturday, Ed Alonzo, the “Misfit of Magic”, had the day off. He was famous for being on Saved by the Bell, as Max, the owner of The Max café (where all the school kids hung out).
Now that I’m living in Northern Florida, the option to go to Disney World, in Orlando, is a possibility… although with expensive tickets and slow lines, I may never go.
