State of Play (June 2, 2026)
The official Summer of Gaming kicked off with Sony’s State of Play live stream … showcasing their lineup of games coming out on the PlayStation. It’s basically an hour of gaming commercials!
The sad thing is that I’ll probably never play these games, if they are to be exclusively on the PlayStation. I’ve long been disenchanted with Sony and their greed. My last PlayStation console was PS4… which I still own.
So here are just my quick thoughts on some of the games I saw:
It looks like the headliner game of State of Play is Wolverine. Great trailer that had a great one-liner, “Nah, kid, I’m Wolverine.”
Then we have another Marvel game – this time a fighting game with Dr Doom. Color me slightly interested.
Another Rayman game, some afro-kung-fu game. I don’t know, something about cooking or sushi. I’m checked out, don’t care.
The new Tomb Raider looks interesting… it has dinosaurs… and then we’re in another dinosaur game called The Lost World. I thought it was a Jurassic Park game, but there’s no branding.
Phantom Blade 0 looks impressive… but I need to see how the game plays. The Dune game is coming out too… but I’m not sure if anyone is interested – based on the lackluster interests in the films. I personally like the Dune movies, but yeah, no interest in playing a video game based on Dune.
There’s a game on the State of Play that I’ve already played on the PC called No Rest for the Wicked (I didn’t like the game)… but I guess it’s finally coming to the PlayStation this year.
There’s a weird racing game that lets you drive KITT (Knight Rider) or the DeLorean from Back to the Future.
Until Dawn 2 looks like a Friday the 13th game, which I have no interests in. I guess the first game was so popular that they’re going to release the second game in 2027.
The last game on State of Play is, of course God of War. It is the third game in this modern God of War series. I’ve really enjoyed the first game, but have yet to play the second game. Perhaps when it goes on sale, on Steam, I will pick it up to play before the third game comes out… however, based on Sony’s stance – it’s probably unlikely we are going to get another God of War game on Steam (since they want to keep their games exclusive to PlayStation).
Based on the trailer, it doesn’t appear like you’re going to play the God of War – but his wife! It also look like they motion capture that Karen Page girl from Daredevil. The game play footage looks great! Of all the games showcased, this new God of War game looks like the best game (or movie).

Summer Game Fest (June 5, 2026)
The next big kickoff is the Summer Game Fest, taking place June 5, 2026, followed by Xbox Summer Games Showcase on June 7, 2026 (which we previously mentioned).
I did watch Summer Game Fest last year and described the event as, “Compare to Keighley’s The Game Awards, Summer Game Fest is less impressive, but it’s more focused in what it’s trying to deliver – which are games coming out soon-ish.”
So, expect to see “coming soon” games… and games that I can play on the PC, since State of Play is mostly for the PlayStation games.
Details of the Summer Game Fest event:

Summer Game Fest returns with blockbuster reveals, surprise guests, and a look at what’s next in video games.

Ready Player One

Don’t count out Nintendo just yet! There are rumors that there will be a Nintendo Direct that will air sometime the first week of June.
