We have an interesting duet today, in honor of President’s Day.  The song is called El President, is about President Salvador Allende of Chile.   (I think it’s about his assassination, from the lyrics anyway).

So, basically you have Isabella Monteiro (from Chile) and Radiohead’s Thom Yorke, with both of their unique, sweet voices.  Although the song appeared on Drugstore’s second album and on a single, I believe they had a little trouble trying to release it because of the record company’s dispute.  I don’t know too much about the details – but it’s probably about money. Those greedy bastards.

Also, I’m not sure if the title is misspelled, but it is called “El President”, not “El Presidente”.

  1. I fell in love with drugstore after hearing their “Super Glider”, which is worthy of “Fade Into You” adoration. Only 3 CDs from them, right? If you haven’t heard “SG”, drop me a line I’ll e-mail it. This track is maybe my least favorite of theirs; it doesn’t gel with the rest of their stuff to my ears. Still, Thom Yorke, right?

  2. I like that towards the end thom’s part mutates towards “kill the president.”It’s quite relevant, I think.
