Kimya Dawson – Being Cool

Just to give you an idea of the lack of organization at W♥M, we have this shared “pending” list of bands we’re working on and I guess Ryan was working on Herman Düne, which I’m actually sort of writing about today. Fortunately, I will not be too focused on Herman, but on David-Ivar’s alter-ego, Yayahoni.

At the end of last year, Andre left the band, so I believe it’s basically just David-Ivar and his drummer. They’re currently on a long European tour.

Anyroad, he’s released seven different cover songs on his website, among them is my favorite Kimya Dawson song, “Being Cool”.

Dawson is a famous anti-folk singer and songwriter (I don’t know about you, but when I think of anti-folk, I think of anti-pasta). She’s also probably most know for being half of The Moldy Peaches, who’s signed to Sanctuary Records/Rough Trade.

What I really like about this song (and really, any of Dawson’s songs) is that it’s full of wonderful and descriptive lyrics.

Even he says it’s amazing raising babies in the place where you come from
