It's great loud, it's multi-layered and if just catchy enough to warrant a second and third listen (and probably more). It's the debut self-titled EP from this five piece, with a penchant for grey, from Melbourne (Australia). Only very new to the music scene, The Trotskies are a group of friends who share similar musical taste as well as the same level of passion for music, shown by the speed at which they've released their debut recording. This EP is just a taste of what I'm sure is yet to come.

Reportedly influenced by Joy Division, New Order, The Stone Roses and the like, but this doesn't clearly come across in their songs…. which is not all bad. Who likes a copycat anyway?

The Trotskies brand of indie will not get you singing along on a long car trip (which is my personal favourite location for getting re-acquainted with anything Stone Roses related). The laid back tempo and the borderline moody guitar sings will most definitely inspire you to grab a cold beverage and have a nice sit down, close your eyes and just take it all in. I can envisage these guys would come across very well in a live setting.
