Northside Festival

This year’s Northside Festival holds some seriously impressive acts and showcases. Hosted by Northside Media Group, the Brooklyn “discovery festival” (as the group calls it) will give attendees plenty of …

New York’s The Northside Festival just took place last week (June 12-19, 2014).

At the most Brooklyn of four Northside shows attended, The Teen Age played a set in a fairly new Bushwick venue called Pet Rescue. Essentially, the small loft space was reconfigured to hold small performances, so that audiences can be comfortable, as if they were home, said Eleanor Whitney, a writer/musician who was helping with ticket sales that night. Located in between warehouses, and easily missed (I only found it after following a group of girls who were asked if they were looking for Pet Rescue), the whole set-up was exactly what you imagine a Brooklyn show to be like.

Seriously locally based (the lead singer lives down the street), The Teen Age plays fast-paced, punk rock music with a wave of surf rock mixed in. Their catchy hooks remind me of The Hives, but are combined with fairly low-key singing. Even in the small space, the band moved around and gave off a lot of contagious energy.

Details of event, hosted by Hearts Bleed Radio:

1st The Teen Age
2nd My Teenage Stride
3rd The Planes
4th Shark?

9pm. $7.
