Here is a guide of some Minneapolis (and St Paul) live concerts and events taking place next week: July 6 – July 12. This week we’re “spilling” over to Wisconsin because of Minnesota’s flooding problems (which has already caused A Taste of Minnesota to move location).

SUNDAY, JULY 6
HENRY MAIER FESTIVAL PARK

Summerfest

John and I talked about Milwaukee’s Summerfest on our Minnesota Music Festivals Podcast, but it ended up on the cutting floor because of: (1) It’s not Minnesota, and (2) It was confusing with “Somerset, Wisconsin”: Soundtown (in Somerset) and Summer Set (again, in Somerset).

Summerfest is certified by the Guinness World Records, the festival is “The World’s Largest Music Festival” (based on its 75-acre coverage). Yes, bigger than Glasto.

Lineup for their last day:

Melissa Etheridge

Cheap Trick
No Quarter – Led Zeppelin Trib.

Domenic Marte
Ismael Miranda

Crowder

Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
Jake Bugg

WEDNESDAY, JULY 9
THE VARSITY THEATER

Veruca Salt w/ Battleme

Possibly one of my favorite moment this year was when I was told that Veruca Salt reformed! Yes, that’s right, the original team (Nina, Louise, Steve, and Jim) are back together, recording new music and will be heading out on tour!

It has been a long, long time, but I absolutely cannot wait to hear their classic songs “Seether”, “Get Back”, “All Hail Me”, “Spiderman ’79” — heck, play the whole American Thighs album live, I’m on board all the way!

Opening up for VS is Battleme, which Emily described as looking like “the lovechild of Joseph Arthur and Frank Zappa.”
