CANTERBURY PARK

Vans Warped Tour

We covered Vans Warped Tour last year and we were only able to cover about seven bands (one stage)… which is pretty sad, because there are hundreds of bands on the lineup. If you are attending this year’s show, taking place this July 20th, you’ll just have to pick and choose your battle and have fun watching as many bands as possible.

My personal picks are Saves the Day, Anberlin (their last tour before they break up!), Yellowcard, and Sleeper Agent.

Here are just some of the bands playing this year:

Mayday Parade,
Beartooth,
Air Dubai,
For Today, The Mixtapes,
Stray From The Path,
Teenage Bottlerocket,
Plague Vendor,
Tear Out The Heart,
The Protomen,
Attila,
Saves The Day,
A Skylit Drive,
The Ghost Inside,
The Ready Set,
The Devil Wears Prada,
The Color Morale,
Nit Grit,

Cute Is What We Aim For,
Issues,
Crown The Empire,
State Champs,
The Maine,

THE MYTH

Counting Crows / Toad the Wet Sprocket

‘Wonderland’ is arriving early…

… or at least a slice of it.  Counting Crows have again decided to spend their summer on the road, in early promotion of their next upcoming album, Somewhere Under Wonderland (Capitol Records), due out Sept, 2nd in the U.S.

The Bay Area band have been playing multiple new songs from the release, alongside many of the favorites fans have come to know over the last 20 years.  The band’s live shows are also legendary- with an ever-changing setlist and singer Adam Duritz often unpredictable and brilliant in concert.

Fellow Californians Toad the Wet Sprocket will open this solid double-bill, in support of New Constellation (Abe’s Records), released last year and the band’s first collection of new material in over a decade.

THE GARAGE

Scale the Summit / Glass Cloud

Prog metal lives and is coming to a garage (or The Garage) in Burnsville!

Houston prog instrumentalists, Scale the Summit (who we very much enjoyed opening for TesseracT last year at the Skyway) return to these parts in a co-headlining  tour alongside Hampton, VA prog metallists Glass Cloud, that makes a local stop in the south metro, at The Garage in Burnsville.

Scale the Summit made its national mark five years ago on Dream Theater’s Progressive Nation Tour and is best known for its technically brilliant instrumentals spotlighting guitarist Chris Letchford and his headless 7-string guitar.  The Migration (Prosthetic Records) is the band’s 4th release, with new music hopefully due soon.

Glass Cloud released an EP late last year, Perfect War Forever (Equal Vision Records) and is rebounding from a recent lineup change that had its rhythm section departing, though singer Jerry Roush and guitarist Josh Travis still remain.

Alabama prog metalcorers Erra, local Twin Cities band Reflections, and Monuments round out the full bill.
