Lettuce

GRAMMY-nominated funk sextet Lettuce is on tour for their record Unify. The band got the stamp of approval from funkmaster general Bootsy Collins thanks to tracks like “Keep That Funk Alive.”

Show recap forthcoming!

Lettuce is a six-member, GRAMMY®-nominated musical group that blends the rich traditions of funk with influences from hip-hop, rock, psychedelia, jazz, soul, jam, go-go, and the avant-garde.

Formed in 1992 by Berklee College of Music alumni, the band includes Adam Deitch, Adam “Shmeeans” Smirnoff, Erick “Jesus” Coomes, Ryan Zoidis, Eric “Benny” Bloom, and Nigel Hall.

Over their three-decade-long career, Lettuce has released a dynamic discography, including albums such as Outta Here (2002), Crush (2015), and their latest work, VIBE (2022), which is available digitally and showcases a continuous 48-minute session of raw, improvised music.

With VIBE, Lettuce pushes creative boundaries, delivering a spontaneous musical experience that blurs genre lines and embraces a mix of jazz chords, psychedelic influences, soulful horns, and hip-hop elements.

Recorded without prior planning, editing, or overdubs, the album captures a fully improvised and uplifting sound that encapsulates their innovative spirit. As saxophonist Ryan Zoidis describes, the session is “a true spontaneous musical expression” that exemplifies their artistic evolution. Lettuce continues to cement their legacy as trailblazers in the world of funk and improvisational music.

The heralded funk sextet recently released a cover of Keni Burke’s 1982 single, “Rising to the Top” in anticipation of Lettuce’s forthcoming LP, Cook, due December 3 via the band’s own Lettuce Records. Their take on “Rising to the Top” is described as a love letter to the 80s R&B influences that shaped the band’s sound.

Earlier, the band released the live album and concert film Lettuce with the Colorado Symphony and the band also recently announced the launch of Lettuce Red Crush and Orange Crush wine brands in collaboration with Aquila Cellars, along with a recipe book featuring pairings to be included with the vinyl album and available on digital.

Arrive early for Columbian-based BALTHVS who have released a recent few singles, including a new remix of “Mood Swing” by Latin electronic artist Sinego, out now. BALTHVS is a three-piece psychedelic funk outfit known for its groove-led, globally influenced sound. The band features guitarist Balthazar Aguirre, who turned to music following a rock-climbing accident that led him to leave a law career and pursue his creative path.

He is joined by bassist Vanessa Muñoz and drummer Santiago Lizcano.
