■ Patti SmithPatti Smith is an American singer, songwriter, poet, painter, author, and photographer. Her 1975 debut album Horses made her an influential member of the New York City–based punk rock movement. Smith has fused rock and poetry in her work. In 1978, her most widely known song, “Because the Night,” co-written with Bruce Springsteen, reached number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and number five on the UK Singles Chart.
2026 is the Year of the Horse.
Patti Smith
Last November, Patti Smith and Her Band were touring in support of the 50th anniversary of their celebrated Horses album. Music journalist Caryn Rose (the author of 2022’s Why Patti Smith Matters) attended five Smiths shows, in three cities (Chicago, New York City, and Boston) and captured her experiences in detail in her new chapbook Three Chords and Blessed Noise.
The 48-page book was written, produced, and published less than two months at the end of the tour.
Rose wanted to document the energy and spirit of live music through a traditional published work, as she noted:
I didn’t want to write something that would get lost on the web, I didn’t want to be limited by word count, and I wanted something that was tangible.
The book is printed locally in Southeast Michigan, and published under Rose’s Till Victory Press imprint. For those who prefers an ebook, it is available now.
Excerpt from book
There was a palpable excitement in the small crowd of people gathered around the entrance of the theatre [Chicago Theatre], waiting for the doors to open at 7:00pm. There were punks in leather jackets, women arriving from work in business clothes, excited groups of friends taking pictures with the marquee above them. There’s a graying long-haired man trying to raise a few dollars from the folks waiting to enter; he offers a half-sung, half-spoken version of the Stones’ “Sympathy for the Devil,” but by the next night he was giving “Gloria” a try.
P.S. We recently saw Patti Smith at a sold-out concert and memoir book reading in March 2026: “The intimate concert at the Parkway was basically a concert with reading excerpts from her book. She is joined on stage by long-time band member Tony Shanahan on bass and keyboards and her son, guitarist Jackson Smith.”
Corb Lund
Corb Lund will be releasing Dark Horses on August 7, 2026 via New West Records (however, Amazon is currently listing the ship date as Jul 24, 2026). The 11-track set is a new recording of acoustic versions of some of Lund’s favorite songs across his catalog.
Lund say:
Dark Horses is a number of my songs that are favourites of mine but didn’t necessarily light up the charts. I chose one track from each of my eleven albums of original material and re-performed them in my living room, unaccompanied. This presents the songs in their rawest form, boiled right down to their essence. It felt good to put a little emphasis on some of these tunes that have always meant a lot to me but didn’t get much attention. Thanks to those of you out there who have appreciated these dark horses over the years.

Rusty Santos
Record producer and musician Rusty Santos (formerly of The Present) is celebrating Year of the Fire Horse with his album Psycho Horses. You may know Santos from his previous works with Animal Collective, Panda Bear, and Born Ruffians.
Talking about the album and title track, Santos offers some background on the track and video:
As soon as I finished the song ‘Psycho Horses,’ I knew that it would be the single and that this release would coincide with the year of the horse. This song originated from a jam with me on Minimoog and Marcio Rivera on drums. I laid down scratch vocals with the lines, ‘Psycho horses galloping. I feel forces evaluating me.’ The rest of the lyrics sprang out of that. When I played the song live, Gabby Fiszman told me she had an idea for the music video; it’s entirely her concept. We shot this at four locations: first at a horse ranch, next inside an old basement, then at a park, and finally at the beach. All the masks were hand-made with esoteric symbolism in mind; there’s no CGI in any of it. It takes place in another time, either in the deep past or in a post-technological future.
