The Aces
Recently, all-girls band The Aces released their deluxe album Gold Star Baby: After Hours.
The band will be returning to Minnesota, playing that very large venue the Armory, as support for Louis Tomlinson on his How Did We Get Here? arena tour. We did catch the band when they headlined The Fine Line in November 2025 and said, “The Aces formed their band at an early age. They have a great origin story that can be summed up with this short video. Like Lydia said before, Minneapolis was the kickoff to the Gold Star Baby Tour and The Aces did not show any pre-tour jitters. In fact, there was a cool confidence in a band that has already played the Fine Line twice before. Also, there is a freshness or freeness in their latest album, which they described as “…a celebration of queerness and escapist, sapphic, disco-pop fun.” Quite a bit was played from the new album until the band took a “coffee break.” They took a vote to invite the best-dressed fan on stage to take a shot with them. Then they hit their stride with “Stroke” and “Fire in the Hole.” And before playing “The Magic” Alisa took the mic to give detailed instructions to the crowd on audience participation. But instead of words or clapping, it was a kind of guttural utterance, which involved putting the hands in the air and thrusting them down with a “Haaaaaah Ooooomp!””

Sonia Stein
Sonia Stein released her new Golden EP last month.
Stein talks about the new EP:
This EP is my last project before crossing the threshold of motherhood. The songs feel like a trip or tour through my mind in my early and mid twenties, the intensity of the emotions that come with that time, having a little more space and compassion and humour for them now with enough distance. It feels good to own the parts of myself that used to feel embarrassing or ‘too much’ and interpret them from the vantage point I have now.
Golden is a song that feels like a coming of age meditation on growth, impatience, presence , doubt, acceptance and the quiet value of ordinary moments. It’s about learning that peace and purpose aren’t destinations at the end of a road but rather hidden on the stretch of road you’re already on.

Briefly
● Multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer, and vocalist Lola Bates returns with her new single, ‘Madonna Gold’, available now across all major streaming and digital platforms. Her album Love and Power is arriving May 08, 2026.
● San Francisco-based noise-pop project Badvril (featuring singer Becket Schroeder) recently released “Golden”.

● Aussie country artist Melanie Dyer most recent single is called “Golden Girl”, an upbeat, heartwarming pop country anthem that captures the magic of young love. Thank you for being a friend.
