World Cup KC fever is in full swing–

Every time we’ve been in the metro, we’ve seen soccer jerseys everywhere, traffic is noticeably heavier on game days, and shuttles to Arrowhead err, Kansas City Stadium, have had issues and delays, so allow mucho extra time. If that’s too stressful, there are 16 bars allowed to stay open from 6am-5am, so you can raise a glass at almost any hour.

The good news is that KC and Lawrence have proven themselves as worthy hosts on the world stage, which will hopefully lead to other events. We haven’t made it yet to FIFA Fan Festival (Chainsmokers were washed out the previous weekend) but we’re hoping for good weather for Sheryl Crow on July 10.

The Kansas City Symphony just unveiled new renderings for its new venue, a 4,600-capacity new building at 49th/Main due to open in 2028- we’re impressed and this state-of-the-art building should be another jewel in the local crown.

Wallflowers, June 23, Liberty Hall-Lawrence,$64.95-$203

One of your favorites, one of theirs- The Wallflowers, led by Jakob Dylan, are currently on a special US & European tour that will see the band perform their 1996 album Bringing Down the Horse in its entirety in honor of the LP’s 30th anniversary, alongside Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers’ Long After Dark, also played front-to-back.

Speaking about the tour, Dylan said, “Coming back after such a long time, we wanted to do something special for the 30th anniversary of Bringing Down the Horse. We decided to play what seems to be our fans’ favorite Wallflowers album, and for us, we wanted to play one of our favorite Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers records, Long After Dark.”

Bringing Down the Horse was released in 1996 and the record sold over four million copies worldwide and produced four hit singles: “One Headlight,” “The Difference,” “Three Marlenas,” and “6th Avenue Heartache.” At the 1998 Grammy Awards, The band won “Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group,” while “One Headlight” was awarded “Best Rock Song.”

Multi-platinum selling artist mgk (aka Colson “Machine Gun Kelly” Baker) is out on his The Lost Americana Tour in support of his seventh studio album Lost Americana. The tour is set to be his biggest headline run yet, bringing him to arenas, amphitheaters, and festivals across North America, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.

After releasing his first full mixtape in 2007 and rising through the Cleveland rap scene, he released his debut album “Lace Up” in 2012 led by his first Billboard charting single “Wild Boy.” He reached No. 4 on the Hot 100 with “Bad Things” (2016) and hit similar with singles like “Rap Devil” (2018), “my ex’s best friend” (2020) and “Lonely Road” (2024).

In collaboration with blink-182 drummer Travis Barker, mgk embraced a pop-punk sound for his 2020 album, “Tickets to My Downfall,” and its 2022 follow-up “mainstream sellout” with both albums debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. We caught him last in concert, in 2022, in St. Paul MN.

Punch Brothers, June 23, Kauffman Center,$54.50-$84.50

Punch Brothers are returning to Kauffman! – the group formed in 2006 and are a virtuosic quintet featuring mandolinist Chris Thile (Nickel Creek) guitarist Chris Eldridge, bassist Paul Kowert, banjoist Noam Pikelny and violinist Brittany Haas.The band has garnered critical acclaim, including a Grammy Award for Best Folk Album for 2018’s All Ashore (2018).

The band has a new record out next month, The Unsung Adventures of Punch Brothers is due July 24 and they’ve also been focused on their musical variety show, “The Energy Curfew Music Hour,” with seasons one and two available on podcasting platforms.

WEDNESDAY JUNE 24

Dave Matthews Band, June 24, Morton Amph,$69.50-$389+

DMB’s Summer headline tour kicked off with a trio of Texas shows, with this show mid-tour at KC’s newest venue, and will wrap up with their traditional Labor Day weekend residency at the Gorge Amphitheatre in George, WA (September 4-6).

The band’s most recent album us 2023’s Walk Around the Moon, and we saw them inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame two years ago in Cleveland.

Fai Laci, June 24, Encore Uptown,$28

Boston alt-rock band Fai Laci is making a KC stop at Encore, the smaller room near the Uptown, in support of their debut album, Elephant in the Room, out just two days later, so it’s great timing to hear the new tracks. The album was recorded in Nashville with Easy Eye Sound founder (and Black Keys guitarist, Dan Auerbach producing.

Luke Faillaci recorded the first EP, Conversation, in his college bedroom in 2022, and then in early 2024, was joined by his closest musical friends – Michael Goldblatt, Zack Putnam, Cal Hamandi, and Anthony Cervone – for the second indie EP, Knock at My Door.

Ends on Friday! Lewis Morrow’s work has a world premiere right here in KC with this initial run and concludes another successful season for KC Melting Pot!

In a quiet tire shop owned by Bennie, the shock of a nearby factory shooting reverberates throughout the city. With the shooter still at large, business grinds to a halt as Bennie, Claudette, and Roderick find themselves grappling with the chilling reality that they may have personal connections to the shooter, forcing them to confront their own emotions, biases, and moral dilemmas.

As they navigate their uneasy reflections, the weight of their shared history and the aftermath of violence hang heavily in the air. Like Six O’Clock is a raw unflinching look at the choices we make and how we justify them.

THURSDAY JUNE 25

Treaty Oak Revival, Country Stampede- Day one, June 25, 26, 27, Azura Amph, $139+

Country Stampede is one of the Midwest’s biggest outdoor country music and camping festivals, with a legacy that is in its 30^th year, and will be the last in the KC area, before the festival moves to Park City, near Wichita, beginning next year. We were there in 2022 and 2024 and had a good time at both.

Day One of this year’s festival features Treaty Oak Revival, Wyatt Flores, Presley and Taylor, and Isaac Cole. TOR is a country and southern rock band based in Odessa, TX, blending traditional Lone Star and Red Dirt country with post-grunge and punk influences.

They have released multiple studio albums, including last year’s West Texas Degenerate and their breakout hit “Bad State of Mind” propelled them to streaming success and national tours.
