R.I.P. Bonnie Tyler
Bonnie Tyler: The Ultimate Collection (2020)
Back in the day, in Sacramento, we knew a guy who would sell 7” and 12” singles at the local flea market. He had a collection, for sale. The singles that didn’t sell, it was in a crate that he left in a room. Although they were merchandise, they were all used, so I never felt bad for playing all the songs on a record player. Favorite songs on my playlist were “I Eat Cannibals” by Total Coelo, “Making Love Out of Nothing at All” by Air Supply, “The Warrior” by Scandal, “Bette Davis Eyes” by Kim Carnes, and “Total Eclipse of the Heart” by Bonnie Tyler.
So, I was sad to see that Bonnie Tyler has passed away at the age of 75. I love her song, and I’ll be terribly honest, I haven’t kept up with her music, nor did I even know she was Welsh! I’ve always thought she was a country singer. And I’m sure she has other hit songs (she must!)
At the end of the day, it’s the songs that people will remember, and whenever I hear “Total Eclipse of the Heart”, I think of that time in the 80s. I think of Tyler’s big hair and the sun in… Total. Eclipse.
Rest in peace, Bonnie Tyler.
