Stars – Heart
Stars originally formed by Torquil Campbell and Chris Seligman, in Toronto, moved to New York, and currently based out of Montreal. They have three full length albums (Nightsongs, Heart, and Set Yourself on Fire)
Today I will be focusing on the Heart album. When Amy Millan and Evan Cranley became permanent members of the band for Heart, Stars’ sound shifted from electro-indie (as heard in their cover of This Charming Man) to indie-rock.
There are three different covers for this album. Besides from the three different record companies and covers, the US version contain an extra track, “The Comeback (live)” from The Comeback EP.
The song you’re about to hear is titled “Heart”, it’s a favorite of mine from the album. It is a beautifully slow-moving love song.
Trivia: Amy Millan released a solo album in 2006 called Honey from the Tombs. Most of these songs, according to the press release, was written before she joined Stars.
[this is good] alright. so I was listening to this song on the weheartmusic playlist thing and I can’t believe I’d gone so long without listening to this band! thanks for the recommendation. I love it!
[this is good] love this track, and Elevator Love Letter.
Stars are one of my favorite bands!!! And one of my favorite live bands too.. for some reason I’ve always been in a crappy mood when they roll into town but I leave their shows feeling uplifted and happy. I try to turn people on to them whenever I can.
[this is good] “Set Yourself on Fire” is a super great album – now I’ll have to track down the rest! Hooray Stars!
I never realised Canada got its own cover too. I’d be interested to see the different versions of Set Yourself On Fire side by side, too.I love, love, love Stars. Just in case you’ve not heard of them, I also recommend Headlights:http://www.myspace.com/headlightsSome of their songs have a Stars-y vibe to them.
