Garbage – I Think I’m Paranoid

Garbage's album Version 2.0 was perhaps the first real record I've ever owned. It wasn't my first, which was an Nsync tape, and I was eleven at the time so quit laughing. I only bought music then so I could have a point of reference with my peers. I was the wierd smartass in 6th grade, and while I wasn't the class outcast I didn't have much to talk about with the others aside from the usual class gossip and the fact that we hated Mr. Clobb's class. Knowing the difference between Justin and Lance helped keep me socially safe. And I must say, pop records are good as background music.  I'd often play that tape while I was doing homework. Thom Yorke has this term for this sort of stuff, called "lifestyle music."

Arctic Monkeys – I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor

The Arctic Monkeys are undoutably the biggest band from England right now. I did went to see them play live here and I was actually more impressed with their opening band, Be Your Own Pet, which are a few underage kids (the youngest being 18 years old). But what they offer is a little showmenship, as they jump and dance around as they sing (I mean, scream) their songs.

A Nerdcore Sampler

It seems to be my place here to be the old fogey who's always talking about music gone by, so let me take you back in time to an age where everyone was still pretty excited about the internet, the Stile Project was still pretty cutting edge, and Old Man Murray was the place to turn for video game reviews. Besides, Vu challenged me to do an entry on white boy rap and this is what he's going to get. Deltron 3030 has been mentioned here before and Del Tha Funkee Homosapien has enough other projects under his belt that he's not technically nerdcore, but the album was released around the same time and features futuristic rap battle in the year 3030, so it's hard to leave out the nod entirely.
