Speaking of Minneapolis, Jessica Sonner (jessicasonner.com) is playing here at the Acadia Cafe in Minneapolis.

Unlike Rilo Kiley who doesn’t need an introduction, I’ll have to mention that Sonner is a folk singer from Chicago, Illinois, but originally from Denver, Colorado. She released an album (note: album) called The EP in December 2005, and I haven’t seen that she’s released anything else.

Her myspace has some songs that’s not available on The EP, so I would hazard a guess that they are demos for a future album.

Oh yes, I just read that she has a new album coming out “March 2008” (although a “CD release party” is slated for April in her hometown of Denver), perhaps you can pick it up on one of her tour dates.

Dream
Alice Smith

So, erm, stop me if you think you’ve heard this one before: more tour dates! This time Alice Smith (alicesmith.com) is about to set out on tour. She recently appeared on Jimmy Kimmel.

Click on the link for all the details, there’s not much I can add to this, except also check out Dave’s review on For Lovers, Dreamers & Me.

Regarding “Dreams”:

How Smith approaches this song is interesting. It starts sounding like a relative of Foreigner’s “Cold as Ice.” But then like a prime athlete waiting to excel, Smith starts to deliver her lyrics with a pop-like libretto. And as the song continues, she let’s her phrases expand deeper and longer but still holding back, waiting, letting the moment build until the end when she lets it all go, giving a hint of what she’s capable of.

My last news is that Spiritualized (spiritualized.com) is releasing Songs In A&E in 2008. Who knew they were still around?

Dude, their last album was released in 2003, although I thought they broke up in the early 00s when they released Let It Come Down. At least that’s the last time that I heard from this band.

Read more about it Songs in A&E on our press page. I don’t have any songs to represent them, so apologies.

See

Update: here’s a late-breaking news update.  I know this person, so it’s cool to see the video and a capella singing.

I’ve known him for a while, we finally met a few years ago when I was in Canada.
