Belle and Sebastian Write About Love

A while back B&S released an internet-only album. It’s a “Don’t Look Back” concert which basically was their Sinister album, but live!

I’m not going to lie, I love Belle & Sebastian. You’re probably not going to find anyone else that loves B&S as I do, but I don’t want to be grouped with this indie-hipster scene that is best represented by knitting girls and glasses-worn boys. I suppose I can’t fault the band for their audience.
Anyroad, I heard about “Write About Love” weeks ago, and internet age, that’s old news now. I guess I’m old, but I finally got around to downloading their free song via Rough Trade Records, and you know what? It’s actually quite good. The song is available only to the first 20,000 downloads, incidentally (so hurry!)
The song is about a humdrum office job, which anyone who’s heard of “Legal Man” and “Step Into My Office, Baby” should be able to pick up their job theme. This time, it seems like Stuart and Carey Mulligan are in a bit of a sing-sing competition and it sort of made me think of “Lazy Line Painter Jane” and what a great duet that turned out. What I also like is that they’re move away from the Church music of yore and instead sound a bit like an old 60s pop band, with orchestral backing.
So enough of the gushing, here’s some solid details about the new album. It’s officially called Belle and Sebastian Write Aout Love and it’s supposed to come out on October 25th (although I read that the album is available on the iTunes in the US).
