I was standing in line outside the 7th Street Entry on October 28^th and a few girls in front of me were asking why Funeral Party wasn’t on the show poster outside the venue (the poster only listed Two Door Cinema Club and Bad Veins). I told them that Funeral Party was indeed on the bill, that I was there to see them. But it made me think that there were people interested in the band.

There was a lot of young people out that bitterly cold Thursday night, and based on how packed the small venue was for a band from Ireland called Two Door Cinema Club, I can tell you that this band is going to be huge. Especially because the band hasn’t even released an album yet.

On the bright side, it gave Bad Vein and Funeral Party an audience to play to, to get their name out.

I didn’t know much about the band, most of what I’ve gathered was at the show, where they mentioned that they’re from California. What they didn’t mention was the fact that they’ve been become huge in the UK, like many of the US bands that makes it big overseas (including the Strokes, and Minneapolis’ own Solid Gold). I can also tell you that, when the band gets going, that they’re young and full of energy and it’s hard to take your eyes away.

They ended their set with, appropriately titled “Finale”: “your head’s all grey and your shoes are worn and the books you’ve read with the pages torn.“

Surprisingly heady lyrics for such a young energetic band.
