Rachael Yamagata

Rachael Yamagata, 'the troubadour of heartbreak', is currently in the middle of her so-called "Dealbreaker Heart Tour", in support of her Heavyweight EP. According to her website, Sanders Bohlke, will be opening up the Summer tour. …
Rachael Yamagata is back at the Varsity Theater in Minneapolis as part of her "Dealbreaker Heart Tour".

The Varsity Theater marquee

It was only about six months ago was she just here, and just as John described for his show, these recent Yamagata shows are sparse lighting, seated crowd, and overall more intimate than the typical rock show.

Setlist is basically the same as 2012, but minus covers and rearranged with more (as Yamagata puts it) "depressing" music. Also, as noted by Yamagata on stage, in some cases, some songs were re-done with the help of multi-instrumentalist Michael Chaves, who played various instruments and backup vocals. They had a lot of fun with this current setlist.

Surprisingly only a few songs from Heavyweight were played ("Has It Happened Yet" and the set closer "Keep Going")
The majority of the songs were taken from her previous album Chesapeake and Elephants…Teeth Sink… .
The audience's favorite was an old song, "Meet Me By The Water", from her debut album Happenstance .

According to my notes, only two songs ("Worn Me Down" and "Reason Why") were played for the encore, and not three.

As I have previously reported, Rachael Yamagata promised that she would play more live shows… and she's keeping that promise. We are, of course, looking forward to seeing Yamagata again soon.

Find Yamagata, and opener Sanders Bohlke, this summer on the "Dealbreaker Heart Tour". Yamagata's latest EP Heavyweight is available now via Frankenfish Records.
