The Devil Wears Prada
The Devil Wears Prada is an American metalcore band from Dayton, Ohio, formed in 2005. They derived their band name from the novel of the same title. At one time known as a Christian metalcore band, it consists of members Mike Hranica (vocals, additional guitar), Jeremy DePoyster (rhythm guitar, vocals), Kyle Sipress (lead guitar, backing vocals), Mason Nagy (bass), Jonathan Gering (keyboards, backing vocals), and Giuseppe Capolupo (drums). The band had maintained its original line-up until keyboardist James Baney left the band.
Ohio’s The Devil Wears Prada (TDWP) just headlined FIVE, in Jacksonville, Florida, on April 7, 2026. The band was eager to play some new songs from their ninth studio album Flowers (Solid State Records), which came out last November.
Kicking off the show was Denton, Texas’ five-piece band I Promised The World (formerly known as Sinema), who said that this was their only second appearance in Florida, and they love the coastal weather. They really appreciate us for show up early to check out their performance.
The band is interesting, most of the heavy lifting is by singer Caleb Molina, who is very energetic and does screamo-type singing. But then, you hear melodic singing from Hunter Wilson. It’s a cool style, that I often refer to as Beauty and the Beast-type music, but usually that has a harsh male vocal, accompanied with sweet, lush sound of a female vocalist (think Isobel Campbell and Mark Lanegan and you get the idea).
Next up was Bristol, England’s Split Chain, who was so happy to be in Florida. They mentioned that this was “the closest we’ve come to England”. Singer Bert Martínez-Cowles, sporting Florida Gators shirt, is rarely seen with his face (because his long hair is often covering it). If you have a modern camera, it is really hard to focus on the singer, because the camera is looking to focus on human eyes.
The English band is relatively new (only formed a few years ago from the ashes of other Bristol bands Pushing Daisies, Ursus and Roads to Nowhere. Since their debut single, “Get Inside”, they seemed to have a hit on their hands and they’re currently signed to our favorite punk label Epitaph Records for the release of their 2025 debut album Motionblur.
They mentioned their new song was called “Future”… which I looked up from their EP SC.001
Worcester, Massachusettes’ Four Year Strong had a great fanbase, I felt like they could have easily headlined their own show. They didn’t seem to want to be photographed, so most of the lights were backlit, with low or no spotlights. If you like watching silhouettes, this is the band to see. Their fans, who were often singing along to all the songs, they sure didn’t care!
It’s easy to see why they had such a large fanbase, their 2007 album Rise or Die Trying was top 40 on the Billboard Heatseekers. Then their follow-up cover lover album Explains It All features guest appearances from Every Time I Die, Gym Class Heroes, and Less Than Jake. By 2010, the band landed a major record label deal on Universal Motown Records for Enemy of the World.
So, what happened? After firing a few band members, due to changing music styles (removing synthesizers from their sound), being dropped by the major label, the band took a long break. They didn’t return until the 10th anniversary of Rise or Die Trying, doing a European headline tour.
In the US, they toured with New Found Glory in 2022… so finally seeing the band in 2026 was the reason why so many fans showed up.
They ended their set with their most popular song “Wasting Time (Eternal Summer)”, which got everyone in the audience singing along.
Headliner The Devil Wears Prada was no slouch in the fanbase department either. Just to clear some things, I thought the band took their name from the film, but apparently, they took their name from the 2003 book by Lauren Weisberger (which the film is based on).
We previously saw the band in March 2026 and noted, “Frontman Mike Hranica remains a commanding presence, delivering his raw vocals with a still-unhinged intensity and Jeremy DePoyster’s clean vocals provide a melodic counterbalance, that together elevates the overall weight of their performance. Fresh but also familiar, any fans of the genre owe it to themselves to catch The Devil Wears Prada to see why they’ve continued to be a driving force making urgent new music.”
It’s been a long road to Flowers. The band had a massive lineup change, including losing their drummer Daniel Williams in a plane crash in 2025 and bassist Mason Nagy leaving the group.
The band is going strong with current band members Jeremy DePoyster, Mike Hranica, Kyle Sipress, Jonathan Gering, and Giuseppe Capolupo (from Gypsy and His Band of Ghosts).
