■ They Might Be GiantsThey Might Be Giants (TMBG) is an American alternative rock and children’s band formed in 1982 in Brooklyn, NY, by core members John Flansburgh and John Linnell. Initially a duo, the band expanded in the early 1990s and is known for satirical, offbeat music blending punk, polka, and vaudeville. With 23 studio albums, including their 1986 debut and 1990’s Flood, TMBG wrote the Malcolm in the Middle theme and won a Grammy for “Here Come the 123s”

Despite being delayed for a over a year, that was fun to see TMBG play Flood in Oct 2022: “The other thing is that they decided to play Flood, but in completely random order and out of sequence. Which is fine, as I recently played the album on shuffle mode and it had the same effect. Each song stands on its own, they’re all good. Even so-so song “Sapphire Bullets of Pure Love” had something new to offer. The band played this song backward, in real time. They would play back the video in reverse during the intermission and it sounded pretty good! Even though they jokingly said, all we would hear is “Satan Join Us”. I thought I knew the Flood album from start to finish, so it was also a nice surprise and refreshing to hear a brand-new set of lyrics for “Road Movie to Berlin”, featuring the line about “the king of liars”. It does throw you off to hear something new, and now that I’ve heard it, I wish that was the full song on the record.”

We saw the band with Cage the Elephant in Aug 2024 and wrote: “Young the Giant what somewhat treated as co-headliner, with singer Sameer Gadhia mentioning that both Cage and Young started at the same time musically… and have always wanted to work or tour together. While they can certain draw in the crowd, as evident by their headlining tour in June 2023: “Young the Giant kept up with the dance mood, opening the evening with the stirring “American Bollywood” from their latest album with the same name. Formed in 2004 in Irvine, CA, the band is comprised of Sameer Gadhia on lead vocals, Jacob Tilley on guitar, Eric Cannata on guitar, Payam Doostzadeh on bass and Francois Comtois on drums. They are a well-honed group and they put on a dazzling show with their songs, light show and Gadhia’s Technicolor dream coat.”
