Prince

Prince was an American singer, songwriter, musician, dancer, actor, and filmmaker. Often being credited as one of the greatest musicians of his generation, he pioneered the Minneapolis sound and was influential in the evolution of various other genres.

The NACDL Foundation for Criminal Justice presented "The Music of Prince" at First Avenue in Minneapolis which featured former members of Prince’s late ‘80s/early ‘90s backing band, The New Power Generation and special guest Brown Mark from Purple Rain-era fabled band, The Revolution, to celebrate Prince's music and support the mission of the NACDL Foundation for Criminal Justice.

Cowboys in the Campfire at Fine Line, Minneapolis (01 July 2023)

Tommy Stinson (from The Replacements and Soul Asylum) brought his new project called Cowboys in the Campfire show to the Fine Line Music Café in Minneapolis on Saturday night. This was the first night of the tour.

Idles at Palace Theatre, St Paul (2021-10-07)

British rock band Idles (stylized as IDLES) headlined the Palace Theatre, in St Paul, on Thursday, October 7th. The band released Ultra Mono during the COVID pandemic, so this is the first tour to feature those songs live… and as a special bonus, the band is previewing a new song from their forthcoming album Crawler, set for release on November 12, 2021, via Partisan.

First Avenue and Prince: Before the Rain exhibits at Minnesota History Center, St. Paul

Celebrating its fiftieth anniversary this coming week, First Avenue & 7th St. Entry have been the heart of the Minnesota music scene since its first show (featuring Joe Cocker) in a converted bus station originally called The Depot, then Sam's. That fabled history is documented in a unique exhibit now on display called First Avenue: Stories of Minnesota's Mainroom at the Minnesota History Center.
