Prince Celebration 2022

There is a Prince Celebration kicking off Thursday evening, June 2nd, and continues to Saturday at Paisley Park. There’ll be Q&A with artists who worked closely with Prince, including his former wife and NPG dancer Mayte Garcia (be sure to read about her appearance at the NPG show in 2018), longtime photographer Randee St. Nicholas, collaborator and Purple Rain co-star Jill Jones, and longtime Paisley Park Studios engineer Tom Garneau, for Friday and Saturday at Paisley Park. Unfortunately, due to other commitments, we aren’t covering the event this year… but it looks like a fun time.



Instead, what I can talk about is the Prince Mural & Celebration Launch Party, which is taking place tonight, June 2nd, as they complete the 100-foot mural. The block party is open to the public… at least, that is my understanding.



I did briefly saw mural artist Heiro Veiga of Miami, organized by Sharon Smith-Akinsanya and Joan Vorderbruggen in Mid-May to get a glimpse of what the mural would eventually look like (the first image on the left). I was asked to not make a public post, at that time… but now that the mural is nearly completed, I can show you its progress. Seven years in the making, I can tell you that the artists behind the mural is very proud of their work.
