Let’s Knife Re-Cut by Shonen Knife (Jul 10, 2026)

■ Shonen KnifeShonen Knife is a Japanese pop-punk band formed in Osaka in 1981. Influenced by 1960s girl groups, pop bands, the Beach Boys, and early punk rock bands such as the Ramones, the band crafts stripped-down songs with simple yet unconventional lyrics sung in both Japanese and English.
Osaka trio Shonen Knife originally formed in 1981 and features sisters Naoko Yamano (guitars/vocals) and Atsuko Yamano (drums), plus their college friend Michie Nakatani (bass). Currently, the trio features the two sister and drummer Risa Kawano (from the band Brinky).
I’m happy to report that the trio decided to re-record their album Let’s Knife. The original album is long out of print and its songs are not on streaming… so, the band wanted to give fans an easier way to get that album, but now re-recorded with better production. The Let’s Knife Re-Cut comes out July 10, 2026.
We saw Shonen Knife in Oct 2019 and wrote, “As we’ve previously mentioned, this is the closest we get to the original Shonen Knife, as original drummer Mana Nishiura died in a car accident in 1999. Since her death, the band took a break and Atsuko Yamano retired from the group. Atsuko would return to the group, because Ritsuko Taneda went on maternity leave. Since 2015, she’s been permanently part of the group (with current drummer Risa Kawano). As you can see from their setlist, they mostly sing songs about food (with ice cream being the theme to at least three songs). You would find out that the group enjoys cookies, ice cream, and green tea.”
Shonen Knife is on tour this Summer with Men At Work and Toad The Wet Sprocket.

Kurstin is a nine-time Grammy Award–winning producer and multi-instrumentalist who has worked with artists including Sia, Adele, Beck, Kendrick Lamar, and the Foo Fighters.
The Bird and the Bee singer Inara George have announced her 2026 North American tour, in support of Songs of Douglass and Littell. Joining her on the road will be Eliot Douglass (Piano), Dan Schnelle (Drums), and JP Maramba (Upright Bass.)
On the band, Inara says
They are all incredibly talented musicians, and because of that, there is a freedom and looseness to the performances. There’s a lot of playfulness and adventurousness at the shows, which I think plays into the jazz slant of the music.

Bulldozing rock sister duo Girl Tones released their new single, “Stubborn Mouth” via Parallel Vision and Big Loud Rock. The song is described by the band as:
This song is a vulnerable reflection on being headstrong and how it can ultimately deteriorate your own well-being and others around you.
We saw Girl Tones in March 2025 and wrote, “Next up was buzzing sister duo Girl Tones, aka Kenzie and Laila Crowe, who have a handful of singles out, including latest, “I Know You Know” and last year’s “Fade Away” produced by Cage the Elephant’s Brad Schultz, who reached out to the pair on social media, wanting to work with them. Their sound is a raw bluesy mix of riot grrrl and garage rock, full of jagged riffs and pounding beats with guitarist Kenzie determined to work up the crowd into a lather. “Blame” is planned to be the next single (complete with a new music video) and the pair was happy to be playing, though admitted forty-seven days on the road (after opening for Cage in Europe) was a little tiring, though still managed to turn it up to eleven for the closing, “Fade Away”. ”.

The two just recently completed their first sold-out UK headline tour, while in just over two years they’ve gone from total novices to playing Reading and Leeds, The Great Escape and Pitchfork Paris, as well as supporting Two Door Cinema Club and Freak Slug.
Talking about the song, Disgusting Sisters said:
Weirdo Magnet is a song about embracing the quirks and oddities that make each of us unique. It celebrates how our differences aren’t flaws, but the very things that draw kindred spirits together
