Double Double: Xiu Xiu and Joanne Joanne

Shortly after the release of the all Nina Simone cover album, NINA, via
Graveface Records, Xiu Xiu announced an all new original album called Angel Guts: Red
Classroom, which is coming out February 4th, via Polyvinyl (Bella Union in Europe).

Like their previous naked Asian man cover, A Promise, or uncomfortable
Women As Lovers, this upcoming album subject matter is along the same sexual
deviant line, namely that the title was taken from a strange Japanese erotic noir film,
Angel Guts: Red Classroom. The movie's subject deals with racialized sex, double
suicide, double penetration, criminality, fear of physical harm, etc. Yep, this sounds
just like a typical Xiu Xiu album!

Angel Guts: Red Classroom is coming
out on CD, 180-Gram Clear Vinyl, Cassette, and Digital. Collectors will want to get
their hands on the 180-Gram Clear Red, which is limited to 500 copies only through PolyvinylRecords.com.

Joanne Joanne is an
all-female Duran Duran cover band from London. Their name comes from the fact that two of
the women are named Joannes: Joanne Bevan on vocals, Joanne Gate-Eastley on bass, Mel
Woodson drums, Lolo Wood on keys, and Charley Stone on guitar.

The thing with
Joanne Joanne is that they only cover Duran Duran from their 1981-1982 period, and they
don't do the hit song, "Rio". Instead, they'll do oddities and the b-sides.
