Sharon Van Etten

“Hey Minneapolis. There you are! It’s been too long, thanks for coming out tonight,” Sharon Van Etten commented at the nice turnout for her show at First Avenue in Minneapolis on Wednesday, July 16th. …

+ Nilufer Yanya

First Avenue

Sat 02/16/2019 (8pm/$25)

first-avenue.com

The last time Sharon Van Etten appeared at First Avenue, in July 2014, she brought on stage Justin Vernon (Bon Iver), to close out the show. It made sense, considering that Vernon is from neighboring state, Wisconsin.

If you were wondering about Sharon Van Etten’s absent touring and the music scene, it’s because she took some time off to big birth and to raise her first child. The exciting news is that she’s back, with a new album Remind Me Tomorrow (Jagjaguwar Records), and she’s touring again. You might have even caught her on Jimmy Kimmel Live! as she coincide with her tour kick-off this February 6th at 9:30 Club in Washington DC.

Be sure to not miss her at First Avenue in Minneapolis this February 16th.

British songwriter and guitarist Nilüfer Yanya to open.

MEG KIRSCH

+ Con Davison, Orchid Eaton

Turf Club

Wed 02/13/2019 (7:30pm/$10/Sold Out)

turfclub.net

Local singer Meg Kirsch is having her debut EP release party at the Turf Club in St Paul on Wednesday, February 13th.

Con Davison and Orchid Eaton to open.

Details:

After nearly a decade of composing lyrics to Kenny G cassette tapes, Meg finally picked up a guitar and googled how to play. She’s been stitching words to her very own melodies ever since. She still really loves Kenny G.

There’s a great deal of honesty in Meg’s songs, which is entirely palpable when she plays. Regardless of venue, the room immediately softens when Meg starts singing.

Her debut EP “Street Cat”, due February 2019 is the product of process. Meg’s folk songwriting sensitivities come alive supported by indie rock instrumentation, fortified by synth and drum machines. She’s currently losing her mind in anticipation for this release and is pumped for you to hear it!

It’s the new Go 96.3’s Go Show at the Fine Line Music Café on February 15th. The local radio station is bringing Fidlar back to the area.

We previously saw the band in November 2016 and said, “
Capping off the already amazing night of music was Fidlar (stylized as FIDLAR). I had stumbled into their show about a year ago and instantly fell in love with their quirky look, upbeat music, and high energy show.
This four-piece has a way of commanding a crowd without saying a word. They didn’t have to tell the sold out crowd to jump or even bob their heads.”

WARBLY JETS

+ Moonwalks

7th St Entry

Sat 02/16/2019 (6pm/$13)

first-avenue.com

Do you remember Los Angeles’ Warbly Jets? They were in town with Liam Gallagher in November 2017 and we love them, stating, “Warbly Jets opened with a brief but sonically brash and confident set of straight-ahead rock in support of their self-titled debut album (on Warbly Jets / Rebel Union Recordings). The band (Samuel Shea – guitar/vocals; Julien O’Neill – synth; Dan Gerbang – bass and Justin Goings – drums) is relatively new, having only formed in 2015, but is already making waves well beyond their Southern California home, with a garage pop sound that blends ‘60s psychedelics alongside Paisley Underground influences (Dream Syndicate, Rain Parade) and with the sheen of The Verve, the force of Jet, and even Beatles-esque in some vocal harmonies.”

Warbly Jet’s new EP Propaganda is out now.
