Unknown Mortal Orchestra is touring in support of their upcoming double album V (Jagjaguwar).

The record was conceived in Palm Springs, California and Hilo, Hawaii. Hawaiian-New Zealand musician Ruban Nielson explains, “In Hawaii, everything shifted off of me and my music, suddenly, I was spending more time figuring out what others need and what my role is within my family. I also learned that things I thought were true of myself are bigger than I thought. My way of making mischief – that’s not just me – that’s my whole Polynesian side. I thought I was walking away from music to focus on family, but the two ended up connecting.”

Unknown Mortal Orchestra (23 Jun 2013)

We saw the band in June 2013, and wrote, “Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s first headlining show in Minneapolis took place last night at the Cedar Cultural Center, according to singer Ruban Nielson. The Portland-based band previously played with Solid Gold for “Into the Black” (art gallery in Minneapolis) in June 2012, and a month later, returned to the city supporting Liars.”

Miami’s Seafoam Walls to open. The group’s debut album XVI came out in 2021 via The Daydream Library Series, the house record label of Ecstatic Peace Library operated by Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth) & Eva Prinz.

Husband/wife duo Tennis returns to Minneapolis, at First Avenue, on April 8, 2023.

Tennis (07 Mar 2017)

The last time we saw Tennis, it was Triple Rock Social Club in Mar 2017: “Now, feeling fresh and with new songs from Yours Conditionally, the band seemed rather excited to be back on the road. Judging from the attendance and fan support, singer Alaina Moore seemed really happy that people hadn’t forgotten about them. The title of the record and their song ‘Matrimony’, Moore would explain that it was in reference to their wedding day. They were sailing and ported in Baltimore and decided, for better or worst, that it was time have their wedding ceremony. With a quick self-haircut and her sister bringing them a last-minute vintage wedding dress (and no shoes!)… the “reluctant” wedding became their “best memory”.”

Avey Tare (one third of Animal Collective) is touring in support of his fourth album 7s. The tour stops by the 7th Street Entry on April 8th, in Minneapolis.

Animal Collective (11 Oct 2019)

We last saw Animal Collective at Desert Daze (in California) in Oct 2019 and wrote, “… electro-psych band Animal Collective’s set did not disappoint. They opened up with the old school tune from 2005’s Feels, Banshee Beat, fronting stunning visuals of disco dancing girls and hearts. These guys played a bunch of new material, a few being “Gem and I”, “Bolder”, and “Strangers”. Another, “DownDownDownDown” was one that was rare and unreleased. The trippy background art was ridiculous, the one with hands almost holding onto each other being my favorite. Their encore performance was “For Reverend Green”, which they hadn’t played in 12 years.”
