After three years and four unplanned reschedules, Brooklyn’s They Might Be Giants brought their long sold-out show to The Truman in Kansas City MO on Tuesday.  The tour was in support of the 30th anniversary of their breakthrough record, Flood (which was played, but not in sequential order) and also celebrating their recent book, cleverly titled, “Book”.

Now four decades in, the duo / band remains always entertaining and maybe the best bang-for-the-buck musical act working today- two full sets of “all killer / no filler” old and new favorite songs; paper headpieces (think the TMBG version of the Burger King crown) to wear and collectively celebrate with; a song played completely backwards and then a reversed video playback to start the second set to prove they completely pulled it off; and after a technical flub on the fourth song of the night, a triumphant redux in full added to the encore in order to not cheat the audience.  Chef’s Kiss!

The hilarious banter between songs was priceless as usual, too.  More info to come!

We love the Johns and all the wonderfully eclectic music they put out, as does most of the nation, because almost all of these dates have been sold out…for over three years! Covid, a car accident, and scheduling has caused date changes, but it’s finally happening and they’re coming for real!

The band will play seminal album Flood in full, as well as other numerous hits to celebrate their 40th anniversary as a band. We caught them live last Fall in Minneapolis and can’t wait to see what the live show looks like now.
