Award-winning Canadian artist Bahamas, a.k.a. Afie Jurvanen, is on tour in support of his new album Bootcut (Brushfire Records). The tour stopped in at First Avenue, in Minneapolis, last night, October 12th.

Bahamas (28 Sept 2012)

We previously saw Bahamas in Sep 2012 and said, “I did manage to catch Bahamas. Bahamas is basically the stage name for Afie Jurvanen, who may be most famous for being Feist’s guitarist and piano player. I really liked them; they had this weird 50s sound to them, complete with two women backup singers. It wasn’t all serious (based on his fancy jacket and glamorous ladies), they sometime sing silly songs like “Hockey Teeth.””

For the First Avenue show, singer Afie Jurvanen was happy to see a group of fans wearing his old T-Shirts. He still had those shirts in his garage at home, but it made him smile knowing that people wearing it.

Bahamas played a mix of old, but mixing in new songs from his latest Bootcut album, which came out September 15th on Brushfire Records. The singer previously noted that the record had a strong country influence, thanks to the fact that it was recorded at Sound Emporium studio in Nashville.

Newfoundland’s Fortunate Ones (Andrew James O’Brien and Catherine Allan) opened the show. The JUNO-nominated, Canadian Folk Music Award-Winning duo was last seen with their album That Was You and Me (Sonic Records). They had a big hit in 2015 with “The Bliss”, which reached #1 on CBC Radio 2.
