New York’s singer-songwriter-bassist Karina Rykman is back in Minneapolis, headlining the 7th Street Entry on February 28, 2024. Be prepared for a special guest of Minnesota dream-pop duo Vansire, because the two teamed up for “Joyride (Vansire Remix),” a new spin on the title track from Rykman’s debut album Joyride (AWAL Records).

Karina Rykman (17 Mar 2023)

We actually accidentally saw Karina Rykman, as part of Marco Benevento’s band, in 17 Mar 2023 and wrote, “Anyway, drummer Chris Corsico looks like he’s ready to rock out, while bassist Karina Rykman (who replaced original bassist Dave Dreiwitz when he joined Ween) is all smiles, doing her head-banging on the bass. The group looks like they are having a good time on this tour, even if it’s about the end. Their last show is tonight, at the High Noon Saloon in Madison, Wisconsin.”

at Fine Line

first-avenue.com

Minneapolis, by the way of New York, Raffaella, will be closing out leap-year February 29, 2024, at the Fine Line. The pop singer recently released her LIVE, RAFF, LOVE (Act I).

We caught Raffaella in 24 Sep 2023 and said, “Local indy pop singer Raffaella Meloni opened up the evening. She’s actually a transplant from Manhattan who made the leap to the Twin Cities after a chance encounter with the lead singer of Hippo Campus, Jake Luppen, turned into something more, as in moving in together. “I like Minneapolis,” she said of her new home. “It smells better.””

WHY NOT to open.

Cat Power
at The Fitzgerald Theater

first-avenue.com

Renowned singer-songwriter Cat Power is celebrating her new album Cat Power Sings Dylan: The 1966 Royal Albert Hall Concert with a tour in 2024.

We saw Cat Power in 01 Apr 2019 and wrote, “As for the show, Chan Marshall is backed up by a full backing live band, featuring Erik Paparazzi on keys, Adeline Jasso on guitars, and Alianna Kalaba on drums. Marshall’s role was just as a vocalist… and, man, hearing Chan Marshall’s voice again is unbelievably good. She has such an unmistakable voice, and hearing her apply her vocals to a variety of cover songs (anything from Sinead O’Connor’s “I Am Stretched on Your Grave” to Lana Del Rey’s “White Mustang”) was just wonderful… even though these cover songs are often under the “Cat Power Version” (meaning that the songs aren’t necessary recognizable at first because it’s so different).”
