Minneapolis Jazz trio Happy Apple is having a vinyl release party for New York CD, their first album in 17 years. The celebration will take place on November 8th and November 9th, at the Dakota Jazz Club, in Minneapolis.
The trio, formed over 25 years ago, features saxophonist Michael Lewis, bassist Erik Fratzke, and drummer Dave King.
If the name Dave King sounds familiar, that’s because he’s also in The Bad Plus.

We saw Bad Plus in June 2023 and wrote, “The Bad Plus closed out the night. The quartet (formerly a trio), features bassist Reid Anderson, drummer David King, guitarist Ben Monder, and tenor saxophonist Chris Speed. They had a strong local support from the jazz community… but also progressive music lovers. The big highlight of the evening was a special appearance from Greg Norton, of Hüsker Dü, who helped played the song “Sick Fire.””
