The Linda Lindas at Fine Line (12 Apr 2025)
There was a surprising number of kids around the preteen age group in the audience. When The Linda Lindas came out to the stage with videos of girls reading books with cats on the cover, all of the dresses and shirts in the crowd with cats on them made absolute sense. Their sound is very punky, with a dash of riot grrrls, comfortably loud and catchy. The set started off with “No Obligation.”

They also played the quirky named song “I’m Going to Tell my Therapist on You.”
She had the crowd split down the middle, at one point during the show, also requested the crowd to be a circle and at the end, asked us to “hop it out” which is somewhat appropriate since Easter is next week. They ended the set with a song called “Dreamer.” They have been in the studio recording their next album, they swear the release date had not been divulged before that night, so shhhh, this is a secret between you and the sold-out venue, it will be out in August!

Although we would have been happy to hear Lucia de la Garza’s every thought, she would quietly say “I don’t know why I keep trying to talk, we have so many songs to play” then launch into the next few songs before speaking again. Somewhere along the lines, it was stated that the band had only gotten three and a half hours of sleep although both were appreciative of all the faces looking up at them. We were asked to hold up our phones with the lights turned on so that they could see us. I felt like a sardine which was reflected in the video behind them that had fish with teeth running across periodically, otherwise known as Piranhas.
About mid-way through the show, the entirety of the group was asked “Is there something you would like to get off your chest?” Someone replied “I love friends!”
The drummer Mila de la Garza said something not mic’ed to which the reply was that My Little Pony was taken off Netflix, that was disappointing to hear. Everyone loves a cover and the 20-song set had a few including “Found a Job” by the Talking Heads and “Tren al Sur” by Los Prisoneros. Ended in their popular hit “Racist/Sexist Boy.”
The encore was definitely recognizable as well starting with Green Day’s “When I Come Around” with the second song their melodic hit “All in My Head” and finally a cover of “Rebel Girl” by Bikini Kill.
