I love movies, particularly genre films. One of my favorite genre is horror films. Taking a look at the top-grossing horror films of 2025, I can disagree that Jurassic World Rebirth should not belong on this list… as well as Anime (sorry, Demon Slayer and Chainsaw Man). Of the titles that remains, I can tell you what my favorite film of 2025 is Final Destination Bloodlines*.
You’re probably wondering, why I haven’t mentioned this horror film? I actually had every intention of posting a review of the film in May 2025, but I was in the middle of moving back and forth between Minneapolis and Jacksonville and the review was never finished. So, I present to you my thoughts on Final Destination Bloodline (from May 2025).

I am a big fan of the Final Destination horror series. I like all the movies, even the bad ones. I’ve seen all the film in movie theaters and own all the films on Bluray (at least before I moved to Jacksonville). I’m a big fan of the series.
I’m really excited about the latest entry in the franchise: Final Destination Bloodlines. It’s been so long since Final Destination 5 (2011). I remember seeing part 5 during the height of the 3-D craze, so I saw it in passive 3-D at the Regal Cinema.
Like I said, I like all the Final Destination movies, and this new one, Bloodlines has quickly become one of my favorites in the series. I really like Part 2 and 3 a lot, but Bloodlines may be up there in my top three.
So, why is Bloodlines so good? It’s because the deaths in this film are beyond crazy! We’re talking deaths you’ve never imagined, and it’s great. That magnet death is the most inventive death I’ve ever seen.
Anyway, the film starts off a catastrophe that occurred on at the Skyview restaurant in the sky in the 1960s. A pregnant girl saw the accident before it happened, and saved a lot of people in the restaurant. Fast forward to the modern day, and Death has finally caught up with the family that was never meant to exist.
If you’ve seen a Final Destination film, you know there are some rules that Death has to follow. The rarely heard rule is that if you kill someone, you get their time. Another rule is that if you died, but comes back, you can survive for the time being.
The most important rule is that Death has to follow the order of death. It took Death decades to kill everyone in that restaurant and has been trying to kill Grandma Campbell. Grandma was smart enough to fortified herself in her home.
Again, this is such a fun film, and you ultimately know that everybody in the film will die. No one is safe.
The Rube Goldberg death designs are great. At one point in the film, the main character, the granddaughter saw the design, but couldn’t figure out how you can die from it. Like that leaf blower could blow in a kid’s face and they can kick the ball and hit you … but it’s not what you expect! It’s a fun death.
There is also a Tony Todd (the Candyman) cameo in the film that was touching. Watching his scene, and knowing that he would pass always shortly after that appearance, it is a little sad to know that we’re seeing him for the last time.
The only weakness in this movie is that none of the characters are memorable, and some characters are not likeable. I know it’s deliberately written this way, so that when their time comes, you root for Death!
Anyway, I hope with the success of Bloodlines, that the studio will do another film soon.
* To be fair, on this list, I have not seen Sinners.
