Jazz Fest After Dark, presented by Downtown Vision Inc, is a series of programming at various venues in that downtown area to take advantage of the huge draw of Jazz music fans at the main Jacksonville Jazz Festival. So, if you’re heading to the Jazz Fest, you can pre-game or stop in after the Jazz show for the perfect chaser to end the night.
The show I stopped in was for Amy Amy Amy, an Amy Winehouse tribute band, at the Albatross (formerly Underbelly). The venue was only a few blocks away.
The local band has Mickey Sharp as the singer and not to be confused with Australia’s Amy Amy Amy (another Amy Winehouse cover lover band). The band played two sets. The band did a good job covering the songs and it’s clear that they know and love the song like the back of their hands.
I did not stay late enough for 3GP, which stands for 3rd Generation Parliament. They appeared on stage at 1am (well past my bedtime), and features band members of Parliament-Funkadelic, sans George Clinton. That looked like the afterparty show to be at!
