R.I.P. Dolly Parton

■ Dolly PartonI’ll be honest with you: I love Country music. I grew up with pop music and one of the songs that I loved when I was a kid was “Island in the Stream”, performed by Kenny Rogers & Dolly Parton. This was a single from Kenny Roger’s album, Eyes That See in the Dark (1983).
Queen of Country music legend, Dolly Parton, has died today. She was 80.
As I have previously mentioned, I did grow up on Country Music. I mean, who doesn’t love a good old fashion Kenny Rogers song? When Rogers teamed up with Dolly Parton for “Island in the Stream”, it was unbelievable how great that song is. I can still hear those lyrics, “Sail away with me, to another world…”
Dolly, at her peak, was starring in 9 to 5 (1980), as actress and providing an amazing theme. “What a way to make a livin’.”
After that hit movie, she went on to acting in other films (Rhinestone and Steel Magnolias to name a few.)
My all-time favorite Parton song is “Jolene”. The song was a little before my time, but it’s my absolute favorite. I learned later that the song was inspired by a fan getting an autograph from Dolly. She had ivory skin and emerald green and she was the most beautiful girl Dolly’s ever seen. When she learned her name was Jolene… well the rest is history.
Interesting enough, some people may love a Parton song, but didn’t know it. For example the chart-topping song “I Will Always Love You” by Whitney Houston. Everyone just associates that song to Houston, but it’s really a 1974 Dolly Parton song.
I leave you with my all-time favorite Parton quote:
It takes a lot of time and money to look this cheap, honey.
