I still own the Deluxe Edition of Entroducing, the debut 1996 album by DJ Shadow. To celebrate the album’s 30th anniversary, DJ Shadow will be playing Entroducing live on tour… stopping by the Palace Theatre, in St Paul, kicking off Rocktober properly.

If you can’t make it out to a live show, Mo’Wax / PIAS Recordings will be re-using the album on September 18, 2026.

The ticket limit is strict. Any attempt to exceed the posted ticket limit per customer or household, or to game the system in any way, will result in cancellation of orders without notice. There is a transfer delay for all tickets prior to the show.

Los Angeles alt-pop songstress KiNG MALA will be headlining Amsterdam Bar & Hall, in St Paul, on October 1, 2026.

King Mala

We saw King Mala in Oct 2022 and wrote, “Alternative pop artist King Mala (stylized as KiNG MALA) is the stagename for Areli Castro. She created her stagename from the Spanish word for “mala”, which means “bad b**ch”. Areli is really excited to be on tour with her self-described “besties” Upsahl. Apparently, Upsahl would later tell us how she was a fan of King Mala’s music when they first met… since then, the two became close friends. Areli is joined on stage with Alison on drums, Benny on bass, and Bill on guitars. It would seem that her big hit song was “cult leader”, as that song had the biggest response from the crowd.”

Initially a duo, the band expanded in the early 1990s and is known for satirical, offbeat music blending punk, polka, and vaudeville. With 23 studio albums, including their 1986 debut and 1990’s Flood, TMBG wrote the Malcolm in the Middle theme and won a Grammy for “Here Come the 123s”

New York’s They Might Be Giants is returning to Minneapolis (and St Paul), for a four-night event of “Evening With” performances. They are all very different shows, very different setlists, and, as usual, with a great eight-piece band. Let’s start Rocktober right. TMBG’s new album The World Is To Dig (see review here) is out now.

They Might Be Giants

Despite being delayed for a over a year, that was fun to see TMBG play Flood in Oct 2022: “The other thing is that they decided to play Flood, but in completely random order and out of sequence. Which is fine, as I recently played the album on shuffle mode and it had the same effect. Each song stands on its own, they’re all good. Even so-so song “Sapphire Bullets of Pure Love” had something new to offer. The band played this song backward, in real time. They would play back the video in reverse during the intermission and it sounded pretty good! Even though they jokingly said, all we would hear is “Satan Join Us”. I thought I knew the Flood album from start to finish, so it was also a nice surprise and refreshing to hear a brand-new set of lyrics for “Road Movie to Berlin”, featuring the line about “the king of liars”. It does throw you off to hear something new, and now that I’ve heard it, I wish that was the full song on the record.”
