It was quite a busy night on Friday, Jamie Lidell was at the Cedar, Semisonic was at First Avenue, and Alice Peacock at the Fine Line Cafe. I ran into fellow W♥M Kate and Lara outside First Ave, who apparently said that they’ve seen Alice Peacock “a long, long time ago“. I only recently found out that Peacock actually grew up in White Bear Lake, which should explain Minnesota popping up in many of her lyrics.

I left them to see Dan Wilson, and walked to the Fine Line.

Matthew Griswold started the entertainment with his song, “Unbridled”. He tells us that he normally has a full band, but replaced them with a harmonica (lower overheads, he explains). As a cover lover, I did spot his Cat Stevens cover of “Father and Son” (a song that Kennie wrote about).

Alice Peacock took the stage shortly after ten with two other musicians, noticeably missing a drummer. She summed it up nicely, the show feels more like a big living room, full of friends and family. The emphasis is on family, as she proudly talks about her newly born baby.

The band followed the setlist pretty closely, with most of the songs performed were from her latest album, Love Remains. There were several solo Peacock performances, including one of “I Am Mary”. The origin of this song was that it was based on a homeless woman named Mary who started a little fire to keep her feet warm, but accidentally burnt down a building, killing five children. I’ve quite a different perspective now on that song.

The only songs that weren’t listed on the setlist was “All About Me”, which was a fan’s request. This was followed by the two songs for the encore, “Wrong Time” and “Fairborn”. Fairborn got a bit of a cheer on the last stanza with:
