RUBY

Am I the only one that remembers Ruby? I asked around the W♥M staff here and no one knew – although strangely they all
remembered Curve.

In the mid 90s, ruby (lowercase) was a British band that re-located to Seattle to produce Salt Peter. Outside of the remixed album, they pretty much disappeared on the music landscape… until 2001 when Ruby came back with Short-Staffed at the Gene Pool. Now producer Mark Walk lives in Los Angeles and singer Lesley Rankine moved back to the UK.

Ruby is back with a new single, "Waiting for Light". I believe this new venture is simply Rankine, and not with Walk.

Rankine described her new music as having some old music in it: "It's like the tradition of bakers using a bit of dough from last night's bread in the new loaf – there are connections and threads from my past life in this new album."
