Young the Giant and Milky Chance
with TALK
at Surly Brewing Festival Field

first-avenue.com

Critically-acclaimed, multi-platinum selling band Young The Giant playing the Surly Brewing Festival with Germany’s Milky Chance and TALK.

We saw Young the Giant in Feb 2019 and wrote, “With a mostly bare stage against the shape of a glowing cube centered above and behind them, Young the Giant began their eighty-minute headlining set with the ominous ‘Oblivion’ from fourth full-length album Mirror Master (Elektra Records) a song that lyrically freely exposes fears and vulnerabilities. The five-piece (Sameer Gadhia-vocals; Jacob Tilley- guitar); Eric Cannata- guitar); Payam Doostzadeh- bass ; Francois Comtois- drums) has become an increasingly seasoned live band and lyrically, is one of those rare acts that can look both inward and outward with compelling effectiveness, often musically understated and never overdoing it.”

Tommy Stinson’s
Cowboys in the Campfire

at Fine Line

first-avenue.com

Local legend Tommy Stinson (from The Replacements and Soul Asylum) has a new project called
Cowboys in the Campfire
, a duo with his good friend Chip Roberts. Their debut album Wronger is out now.

We’ve seen Tommy Stinson before, he’s a lot of fun, and he doesn’t take things that serious, like in Sep 2015, “As for Tommy Stinson, he was having the time of his life. According to Stinson, he just grabbed a few of his buddies and they’re out on tour and writing and recording new music (including his new 7″ for “Breathing Room”, which they played mid-set). While some fans were expecting Stinson to play some Replacements’ classics, Stinson avoided playing any of those songs. That’s fine, I don’t think fans expected it as much.”

Tour dates:

July 1 – Minneapolis, MN – Fine Line *
July 2 – Moorhead, MN – Swing Barrel Brewing *
July 3 – Bismarck, ND – LÜFT *
July 4 – Rapid City, SD – A Cave *
July 6 – Denver, CO – Bruz Beers *
July 8 – Manhattan, KS – The Press *
July 10 – Des Moines, IA – Doc’s Lounge *
July 12 – Chicago, IL – Liar’s Club *
July 21 – San Jose, CA – Music In The Park (w/ Living Colour, Soul Asylum) ^
