Acclaimed singer/songwriter Dylan LeBlanc is currently on tour in support of Coyote (ATO Records), stopping by the Turf Club, in St Paul, on Saturday night.

Opening the show was Nashville’s storyteller, singer/songwriter Jarrod Dickenson. He is joined on stage with his wife, Claire Dickenson.

We first wrote about Jarrod Dickenson in August 2019, talking about his then-forthcoming album Ready the Horses: “Nashville, by the way of Texas, Jarrod Dickenson is returning with Ready The Horses (Hooked Records). The record comes out May 22, 2020. The album was recorded live, straight to 2” tape in a studio on the southeast coast of England. It was inspired by the legendary music of Stax and Muscle Shoals in the ‘60s.”

At the time, the tour with Bones of J.R. Jones and The Mastersons were cancelled and postponed, due to the COVID pandemic.

We finally got to see Dickenson, and it was his very first time at the Turf Club… and it was his last night with Dylan LeBlanc.

After “Home Again”, the song that features one of the Woods brother, Dickenson started playing a song that his wife had to quickly try and figure out what he was playing – because, apparently, none of their shows have pre-made setlists.

At the end of the 45-min set, Dicksenson thanked LeBlanc for letting them “steal a little of their time.”

Turn out for Dylan LeBlanc at Turf Club was terrific. A lot of young couples, and country folk music fans in the audience. According to fans, this was LeBlanc’s first tour in five years. His last show was in 2019 (also at the Turf Club), because his 2020 show (also at the Turf Club) was cancelled due to COVID restrictions. So, it’s been a longtime coming to his fans.

The American singer-songwriter and guitarist’s latest album Coyote is a semi-autobiographical and a concept album. The record tells the story of Coyote, a man on the run and living a dangerous life. The man find himself in the middle of a criminal underworld of Mexico and struggles to find a way out of this treacherous lifestyle.

Perhaps it was to set the tone of Coyote, but the stage was dimly lit and very intimate. His full band would leave LeBlanc near the end of the set and he would continue doing a mini-solo set of quieter songs.

Dylan LeBlanc’s new album Coyote is out now on ATO Records.
