HARBOUR
with Sam MacPherson
at Turf Club

first-avenue.com

Cincinnati’s HARBOUR will be headlining the Turf Club, in St Paul, on July 27, 2025. The band was last seen in town in December 2022 with Wingtip (not to be confused with electronic band Wingtips) as co-headliner.

Sam MacPherson to open. We saw Sam MacPherson in April 2023 and noted, “Sam MacPherson was quite pleased to see so many people on the dancefloor. It was his first time in Minneapolis, and it’s also his first headlining tour, that he admitted that he didn’t know how it would turn out. So he’s happy to even see people here. But he also knows his audience, and thanked everyone that came, including all the boyfriends who were forced to come along. As you can see from the setlist, he played a lot of new songs, such as the heartfelt single, “Safe to Say”, a song co-written with Adam Yaron. MacPherson talked about the song, “‘Safe to Say’ is about acknowledging the uncertainties of growing up and going through life, and wanting to hear your partner say that the love shared between you two is, at the least, not something that should ever be questioned. It’s a song that asks for assurance from someone in a period of life where nothing is ever guaranteed.””

The Church
at Fitzgerald Theater

first-avenue.com

Australia’s The Church returns to the Twin Cities, headlining the Fitzgerald Theater, in St Paul, on Monday, July 28, 2025. I have previously love the band for their hit songs “Under the Milky Way” and “Ripple”. I’ve also criticize the band for never playing “Ripple” (they do play it, but it’s rare)… but with this upcoming tour, the band will be revisiting all their single hits, including “The Unguarded Moment”, “Tantalized”, “Ripple”, and so on! So if you just want the singles and the hits, definitely, this is the tour that you need to see! Long live the Church!

We saw The Church in March 2023 and noted, “When The Church came on stage to an introduction background music, they were greeted with a huge applause. The band proceeded to playing a two plus hour set. This band didn’t need a warm-up band, because they had 18 albums worth of music to choose from. I first heard of the band on Dave Kendall’s 120 Minutes on MTV. He was a Church fan and played “Ripple”, which had become my favorite Church song. By that time, in 1992, the band was already an “old” band.”

of Montreal
with Bijoux Cone
at Fine Line

first-avenue.com

Art-rock heroes of Montreal is touring in support of the 20th Anniversary of The Sunlandic Twins, undoubtedly their most famous record.

We saw of Montreal in March 2023 and noted, “Highlight of the show was their final song, “Heimdalsgate Like a Promethean Curse”. The dancers came on stage to blow feathers into the audience. The audience loved it by their chaotic roar and it was really a great way to end the show. Although many fans in the audience have seen the band live on numerous occasions, I did talked to an “of Montreal virgin” after the show and he told me that there were things on stage that he’s never ever seen, referencing the Abe Lincoln boxing with the topless poodles (an image that cannot be forgotten any time soon). As weird as that sound, he’s definitely going to see of Montreal again when they come back to town.”

Bijoux Cone to open.

July 31, 2025 Thursday
David Lowery
with Dan Israel
at Fine Line

first-avenue.com

David Lowery, of Cracker (“Teen Angst”) and Camper Van Beethoven (“Take the Skinheads Bowling”) fame, will be headlining the Fine Line on July 31st, 2025. Lowery has a new 28-track solo album Fathers, Sons and Brothers, that came out on May 30th, via Cooking Vinyl.

We saw Lowery in March 2023 and noted, “Following a short break, Lowery returned for a short eight-song acoustic set, mostly culled from his recent works, beginning with “Frozen Sea, 1963” about his childhood and his serviceman father. 2019’s “Plaza de Toros, 1967” was about witnessing bullfighting while the family lived in Spain and 2021’s “Leaving Key Member Clause” was his all-too-true story about assuming a band’s name, rights, and obligations (including all debts). The lone older track was saved for last, one he composed as a teen that Camper Van Beethoven would perform in the mid-80s, called “(I Don’t Wanna Go to the) Lincoln Shrine” about an inevitable grade school trip most classes in Redlands, CA took, to visit a local tourist attraction and museum.”
