Catching Feelings by Cerrone and Christine and the Queens

- Catching feelings
- Last One
- Give it to me
- Supernature MMXXV (Purple Disco Machine Remix)
You might recall that last month, I drove back to Minneapolis. To keep me bored from the 24-hour drive, I loaded my phone up with some new music. One of the stand-out music on my drive was an EP called Catching Feelings from Cerrone and Christine and the Queens. All four tracks on the EP are amazing, I just couldn’t get enough of this French-disco/house music.
I was already familiar with Cerrone, who is world famous thanks to his “Supernature” song that took the world by storm in 1977 (selling eight million copies!). It took the movie Climax to introduce the song to a new generation of new fans in 2018.
To be honest, “Supernature”, was the sole reason why I had loaded my phone up with the Catching Feelings EP, as I was curious how the song is interpreted for 2025 remix by Purple Disco Machine with the captivating vocals of French singer Rahim Redcar (aka Christine and the Queens).
As you already know, I was in love. The 2025 modernized it a little, taking it out of the gospel/soul styling from original singer Kay Garner (with lyrics from Lene Lovich), and into modern pop styling of Redcar. The vocals are very clean. Not dirty or unpolished, but a very clear pronunciation and not hiding behind productions or cheats.
Redcar has a very a very Michael Jackson-ish singing style. Very quick-cuts with extended endings, and punctuations like emphasis on sha or t’cha. Hear it for yourself in the title track, “Catching Feelings”:
Don’t fight the moonlight-t’ah, can’t switch it off-ffff
Don’t fight the way I turn you on-nnn
Your pulse is racing, your lips are wet-t’ah
We’re face to facing, I’m not a threat
Don’t be anxious, be carefree
Don’t be afraid of catching feelings for meKeep your heart open, give me the key
Don’t be afraid of catching feelings for me, now
Finally, I also wanted to mention “Last One”, which is such a great anthem. I feel this song could be used in a feel-good movie, where the main character struggles and ultimately wins as “the last one standing.”
I just love the lyrics on this one, especially “I’ve never been so alive, wish I could stand like this all night.” It perfectly captures that feeling that when you are on top of the world and just feeling good about yourself.
I’ll confessed, I’ve never heard of Christine and the Queens before this EP, but now that I’m a fan, I know I’ll be tracking down their music and looking forward to new songs from them. This team-up with legendary French disco king Cerrone is a perfect match for them. I really hope they do a world tour.
