Registered Historical Facts: Lawnmower Parts
When Andy Rourke and Mike Joyce sued Morrissey, he affectionately called them “Lawnmower Parts”… suggesting that they were not an important part of The Smiths and did not deserve the 25% equal share of the group’s earnings.
We previously mentioned Blitz Vega in February 2024 and mentioned that this was a band from Kav Sandhu (formerly of Happy Mondays) and the late Andy Rourke (The Smiths). I did listen to it, it has a bit of that Happy Mondays-vibe, less of the Smiths. Still, I suggest listening for that bass line! We miss Andy.
Talking about the music video for “Superbrain” (which you can watch on YouTube), Kav explains, “It represents the song visually by showing the struggle humans have with technology – how much of our real selves still exist, how much we lose, and what’s left in the end. I think we’re currently on that journey. I guess we’ll see how it all pans out.”
The video was conceived and directed by art director Paul Mulvey, which Kav said Paul was like “a non-musical member of the band.”
Now that “Superbrain” is out, look for Blitz Vega’s forthcoming EP, arriving two years after their debut Northern Gentleman.
I already knew Mike Joyce was releasing his book, The Drums, as I mentioned it in last week. I should also mention that there is also a signed, Limited Hardcover Book for £25, with £15 International Shipping. That’s $54 dollars in today’s exchange. That’s definitely out of my budget, although it’s something I would consider if I didn’t already have his autograph.
I met Andy & Mike at The Smiths convention in 1997, so I got their autographs on some items. Years later, I met Johnny Marr and had him sign the same CD. All I am missing is Morrissey… but I really doubt I will meet him. And if I did meet him, he would probably kindly refuse to sign the CD.
I am probably going to buy Joyce’s book, unfortunately, it appears that no physical copies will be available locally. However the good news is that there’ll be a Kindle version, as well as an Audio Book. I am assuming Joyce reads the book himself. The best part? I will join Audible using a free trial, just to download this book… and then cancel after my first month.
