My favorite time of the year is Halloween… so here’s a flashback of meeting horror icon Bruce Campbell at a book signing.
If you didn’t know, Bruce Campbell is an actor, best known for his roll as Ash, in the Sam Raimi’s original Evil Dead movie series. He would later revive his role as Ash in the television series Ash vs. Evil Dead. Outside of Evil Dead, you may recall him as the lead in The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr. or as the “King of Thieves” in Xena: Warrior Princess (and Hercules).
He wrote his autobiography, If Chins Could Kill: Confessions of a B Movie Actor in 2001, and follow up a novel called Make Love! The Bruce Campbell Way in 2005. To promote the book, and his (terrible) film Man with the Screaming Brain, Campbell went on a movie and book tour in the summer of 2005.
We bought tickets to his movie, but also got to personally meet the actor at his book signing. I honestly don’t remember this event very well, but I have a printout of the instructions and communication from that day, given to us from the book store. It outlines all the restrictions (for example Campbell will only sign one item and you must purchase a book). I have omitted all the information about how to buy the book, as it is not unnecessary or relevant. See photo for reference.
Bruce Campbell Signing Event – Wednesday, July 27, 2005
University of Minnesota Bookstore at Coffman Memorial Union

Line Tickets: Everyone with a book will need to have a numbered line ticket that designates his or her place in line for the signing portion of the evening.

In Line: Once in line, you will receive a Post-It note for each item to be signed. If you want the item personalized, the name only (no message) must be clearly printed on the Post-It. Bookstore employees with “STAFF” badges will walk the line to assist you.

As per Bruce Campbell’s request, everyone in line must have purchased a book.

If you prefer to have memorabilia signed, he will do it on a “one-for-one basis.” For example, if you buy three books, he will sign three pieces of memorabilia instead.

Photos: Pictures will be allowed. We will have a staff person to actually shoot the photo to speed up the process. “Posed” pictures, however, take too long and Bruce has asked that we pass this information along to his fans.
