Abducted by the 80’s at Florida Theatre (Oct 19, 2025)
Abducted by the 80’s
Bands: Wang Chung, Men Without Hats, Naked Eyes
Date: October 19, 2025
Venue: Florida Theatre
Location: Jacksonville, Florida

Everybody Wang Chung tonight! Love the 80’s? Relive the music of the 80’s with Wang Chung, Men Without Hats and Naked Eyes this Sunday, at the Florida Theatre, in Jacksonville, Florida.
I have previously mentioned that while I love Men Without Hat’s famous song “The Safety Dance”, I’m a little partial to “Pop Goes the World” because one of my first 12 inch record that I bought was their Pop Goes the World album.

Men Without Hats at Yonge-Dundas Square (June 18, 2011)
We saw Men Without Hats in June 2011 and said, “After forty years, Men Without Hats, are still an excellent band. Known in America as a one-hit-wonder band for “Safety Dance”, but I have to say, I love them anyway. Singer Ivan Doroschuk (who ironically was wearing a hat) still has the moves, as he hop and jump and does his Mick Jagger moves on the intro cover song, “Jumpin’ Jack Flash”. Song selections from their set includes their “hits” like “Antarctica” and “Pop Goes The World” are from their early 80s album, Rhythm of Youth, Folk of the 80’s (Part III), and Pop Goes The World.”

The Fest 23 (Oct 24-26, 2025)
The Fest 23
Bands: Numerous Bands
Date: October 24-26, 2025
Venue: Multiple Venues
Location: Gainesville, Florida
Website: thefestfl.com
Gainesville is just a little too far for me to drive to. On paper it’s about an hour and a half, but based on my previous travels, it’s probably closer to two hours for me to make the long drive. I did look into The Fest, it looks like an SXSE or CMJ style of music festival. That means there are numerous venues and about a million bands playing. I’m not sure how Gainesville is laid out, but part of what makes SXSW works is that all the venues are on the same two or three blocks. When I was covering NXNE (in Toronto) what sucked is that some bands were playing so far that I had to take the bus to see them… and that’s no fun.
