Local favorite indie rock band Soul Asylum is doing their annual holiday show at First Avenue on December 27, 2025.

Soul Asylum at Minnesota Yacht Club (July 20, 2024)
We saw Soul Asylum in July 2024 and said, “I was surprised to see Soul Asylum so early on the bill. To me, and based on unscientific analytics from setlist.fm, the band should be ranked much higher. Singer and only original band member Dave Pirner is a goofball (as usual!), and was just having a good time. “Hello fellow yachters. I know I took my yacht to the gig.” When Dave asked guitarist Ryan Smith what his yacht was called, he said, it’s called “Hall and Notes”.”
Tommy Stinson to open.
Soul Asylum writes:

We love Koo Koo (formerly Koo Koo Kanga Roo), the local duo is holding a “Silly Shindig”, a massive all-age festival that takes place at 11am! This is perfect for kids, and Koo Koo have a lot of kid fans (we’ve seen it for ourselves).
The event will take place at both First Ave and 7th Street Entry, showtime is at 11:50am. Admission to the 7th St Entry is subject to capacity.

Koo Koo at Taste of Minnesota (July 6, 2024)
We last saw Koo Koo in July 2024 and wrote, “Overall, the event was incredibly well organized and completely family friendly. Speaking of which, we’ve never seen so many kids and their parents enjoying the Koo Koo (they must have dropped the Kanga Roo part of their name) set. All their songs are family-friendly, including the “Rollercoaster” and “Who Farted?”. And being at the Taste of Minnesota, they perfectly ended their set with “All I Eat Is Pizza.” These guys (Bryan & Neil) are great, we’ve always loved them ever since catching them live in Nov 2009. Bryan mentioned that his son was handling their merchandise, and his son was making money on tips to buy a toy.”
What is really cool is that they’re bringing our favorite Japanese comic book band Peelander-Z to the show!

Join Transmission, with DJ Jake Rudh, at First Avenue, to welcome in the new 2026 year!

Transmission 24 at First Avenue (March 22, 2025)
We last attended a Transmission show in March 2025 and noted, “In addition to live music, First Avenue hosts a number of DJ dance parties. King among these is the annual Transmission show hosted by DJ Jake Rudh. Rudh is well known for his weekly show of the same name on The Current radio station, as well as throughout the Twin Cities night club scene. The set up is a familiar one for those who have seen Rudh before. Doors open as he gets started, sliding between songs with the videos on the large screen, while Rudh controls everything from the booth at the back of the second floor. With a focus on New Wave, British Invasion, and similar genres, Rudh weaves a continuous mix of danceable music. An early appearance of The Divinyls’ I Touch Myself had a round of applause from the early revelers.”

If your band is coming to the Minneapolis/St Paul area, please email details to vu@weheartmusic.com with a good lead time. Thank you.
